i was wondering if someone could please explain wiyth details the most important key factors to being a longpole
along with different types of checks and how they are done and little things that help also would be greatly appreciated

body position, in relation to the goal and your man is probably most important. also know your slides, and your part in the team's defense
the effectiveness of checks are as follows:
1. poke
2. lift
3. slap
4. wrap

Poke Lift and Slap are the most important and also most basic of all checks. If done right, and with correct timing, you can be an amazing defender. However, as the level of play moves up you want to incorporate some other take away checks.
Also, most effective defense is body defense. Positioning and foot work are key. You can throw amazing checks but if you are always out of position it is useless

from my experience I think that the most effective check is the chop check and the lift. The wrap check is effective at some times but a smart attackman can read it and easily spin away from it if you dont do it fast enough so you have a better chance with the chop.
