i saw in a recent post by another member on the board that ballstops are now optional, unless you have a wooden head, in which you must have one. Is there any truth to this?

Not IN the NCAA, just playing under their rules. There are several states (IL for one) that use the NCAA rule book, not the NFHS one. I guess that means that those states will also be getting 6 stick checks per team, per game.
Better clean up the equipment, boys! :nahya:

What possible advantage would one have for not having a ball stop?

None, which is why the NCAA took it out.It used to matter for wood crosses.

The six checks per team per game is not a rule, it's a mechanic. That means we really have no idea what will happen for HS teams that play under NCAA rules, or NFHS rules for that matter.

Shhhhh!! If they THINK it might be coming - the problem will start to get cleared up just with the impending threat of strip searches.

if your playing in high school you can either use tape or a ball stop because the rules dont classify what a ball stop is but you do need one in high school play.
