it doesnt seem completely worth it... if you arent that good and wont get enough exposure at recruiting camps then go for it... but if you just go to recruiting camps its much less expensive.

my understanding is that you get a FULL set of equipment.
still i think it was created to separate you from your money

I think NDP is great and people just need to realize what they are paying now will be worth it later.

I'm hoping they do a women's league. I'm already on a club team I pay about $300-$400 for, not including tournament fees and then I'm paying for indoor winter leagues, spring break training, personal coaching, and summer camps. If I could get the same type of exposure and a good deal on equipment, plus meet some other good lacrosse players in the mix, I would want to do it.

Your also paying for the coaching, playing field, money to set up tournaments and run the company, etc.

These guys have to make money somehow. Not everyone can afford to run non-profit leagues.

Besides, in sports like basketball and soccer people shell out thousands for select leagues like NDP.

summer,
my understanding of the NDP is that they are trying to re-create the womens club experience for the guys.

ive heard a lot of adult (parents of Wlaxers) seem to think the WLax club scene is out of control. what's your take on that, since you have the best view of the womens club scene

There are good and bad aspects of the NDP. The NDP can allow those who would other wise not have a chance to play, play. But i think that the NDP would be useless in my area because there are such strong programs. Many players, in my experience, come to play lacrosse when playing other sports like basketball and football and learn the sports from teammates who play. This is a result of lacrosse in the public schools. There are great players who arise from high school programs who would have otherwise not even heard of the sport.

I think a lot of people say that the women's club lacrosse scene is out of control. In my opinion it is not the club teams that are out of control but more the people who run the popular tournaments and those who control the club teams. I think clubs are fantastic for those players who are truly dedicated to the sport, who want to improve their level of play, and be on a team with others like them. My team is a good example of that. There are a few of us who are dedicated but unfortunetly most of us are not. That is my own team's issue though. Usually on the other popular club teams dedication is not an issue. These girls pay money, spend time, and sign up for countless tournaments-which I find nothing wrong with. My problem is that often you find high school coaches or previous coaches at a high school, running these programs on the side. This often turns a club league into a off-season team that is just a branch off of the high school's programs. This is illegal I think, depending on your school district, and unfair. Your supposed to be joining girls from all over on one team to play together, not let the whole Mt. Hebron varsity team play together. Also, a lot of it has turned in to politics, especially in Maryland. I've heard two reports of girls not making teams because they were not on the "right" club team. That who they play for should hinder their success at their high school-something that should be completely seperate-is ludacris. Yet, it happens.

Another aspect that bothers me is some of the biggest tournaments are all run by one company, Womenslacrosse.com. I have nothing against this company, I love that they've done so much for the women's game and are continuing to, but it seems they've started to play favorites and shut out certain teams from certain tournaments. This is only heresay so I will not say any more. Its almost like a monopoly. WLax.com runs Turkey Shoot, All-Star Express, and National Draw. Three huge recruiting tournaments. Girls often feel like they HAVE to go to these or they wont be recruited. Instead, you get there and there are thousands of people and hundreds of players and dozens of teams. I've heard reports from coaches that these tournaments are so frenzied they can hardly seen anyone play by the time the game is over and they have to run over to another field. These tournaments have just gotten, IMO, too big. Another beef of mine is your supposed to be guaranteed something like 10 games at one of these tourneys. Except this summer the second day was rained out and I know girls who came all the way from California for something like THREE 20 minute games on one day. I myself was rained out last summer at National Draw.

So yes, the club scene is out of control in some ways, but I think that the opportunites they offer us girls are great. Also, there are a bunch of teams that are run non-profit, with volunteer coaches. Whats funny is these are often the strongest teams.

i have seen a lot of these kids play at the tournaments and they will need some time before they will be getting recruited by schools to play college. I think it is a good way to play club but i am not sure how much it helps get scholarships

hmm it just seems like it is too much money for something i would do at a sophmore level. If i was serious about playing in college, I may very well save up for this and play, but I see no reason to do this if i can't afford it (this is just me personally though).
