How often does the international men's u-19 championships occur? I was looking at the winners of the past events and maybe its me but it doesn't seem like there is a consistent number of years between each event, Ranging from 6 to 3 years apart.

1988
1992
1996
1999 (odd one out, it was brought forward, i think, so as not to clash with the olympics which were being held in Australia that year also)
2003 (this one stayed in keeping with '99)
2008 (correcting the original four year pattern)

I think the 1999 U-19 world champs in Adelaide Australia were move forward a year (from 2000) because of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. It is generally every 4 years.

Well that would mean some people have the bad luck of never having a chance of playing since you need to be 16 to play

And some had good luck...I was 19 when I played in the 1999 U-19s. I made the cutoff date by 1 month. If they had the event in 2000 I would have missed out.
