Are there any independent Lacrosse leagues on Long Island that do not cost $800.00 or more to play with. My son wll be 15 years old this year and is looking to play more often. The only teams I can find are tournament teams such as the Braves and the Pride, but they are too expensive for me. I am looking for a team that he can play with over the summer and/or fall so that he can gain experience but doesn't cost so much.

I am sure the Pride would work with you financially.

Where in Long Island are you? How experienced is your son?

We live in Central Nassau County. My son played for PAL for 5 years and for the Middle School for 2 years. Rather than a tournament team, we are looking for a team that plays games locally, like the PAL league. does anything like that exist for older kids?

Brooks Sweet runs a summer league, games are either at Adelphi or at Old Westbury,, they have teams from the young ones to JV/Varsity. On the webpage, it is listed as a team sign up, however I have heard that if you put your name in there, they will try to find a place for you if available. With that said, I would also find out when the scheduled games begin and show up, either at JV or Varsity and see if they need any pick up players, but make sure to register, you won't be able to walk on. Here is the webpage, lilax@webspan.net. Tel # is 516 292 3009. 6 games for 6 weeks.

Thanks Beth, my son does play there every summer. It is not very competitive but it does keep him playing. That looks like the only lacrosse he will be able to play outside of school.
