to build up my speed what i did was (get a HEAVY HEAVY bar and act as if it was ur stick) and by useing this you develop the muscles that allow u to shoot harder and faster

a lax shop in my town sells warrior training sticks, its like a 5 pound attack shaft. put a head on it and practice on the wall with that stick and it does what BBlax said. also they have a shaft very similar. its like a 10 lb d shaft so defenders can use that.
Go to the following site and read the various articles they have about shooting. They're some of the best tutorials I found.

For shots on the run, which I discovered I'm actually good at, even at pole, here's a tutorial:
After a dodge, whichever, sprint 100%, and I'll finish my sentence here. Step with the foot opposite the hand at the top of your stick; left foot step with right-handed shot. As you reach full sprinting speed, step with your shooting foot, more like plant your shooting foot, in a sense, and rotate your whole body towards the goal. Everything, hips, arms, butt, torso, the whole deal. Gives a nice fast shot, and continue your run. Ooh, I'm hot. Even the cranky coach said I was awesome.

try to spend as much time as possible shooting, for speed, form is a big factor so even if you worked out a ton you could still not have the fastest shot as you could, so get your form right

ya technique is everything, at camps thel teach you that even if your the biggest strongest person if you dont kno technique and fundamentals ikts nothing, so just practice the correct technique bc that gives u so much more velocity

Good advice on shooting with weighted shaft, but you can save some $ by taking an old aluminum shaft & filling it with pennies or sand or cement & get the same results. Sorry Warrior LOL.
When you get tired from shooting, go straight to the wall with the weighted shaft for 20 minutes & your arms & wrists will be spent.
And UILAX16, if you don't shoot especially hard, work on using your body to hide the head of the stick & you might be more successful beating goalies with surprise more than sheer velocity. The uslaxcamps.com article posted above does a good job of describing how to do this.

you're attack so shot speed isn't that imprtant. You should be more concerned about accuracy. Let the middies shoot 100 mph while you are rippin corners. To practice accuracy...repitition is key..the more you shoot at a target the more accurate you will get. keep your arms away from your body and stick at about shoulders to ears heeight
however if shot power is a concern..it's all about core strength and body torque. Plant your feet shoulders width apart...point your foot and shoulder towards the net...look at the net at all times. when beginning your shot, twist your legsand abs towards the net, Follow with shoulder rotation and then swing and snap your wrists. This is THE BEST technique for a more powerful hard shot.

learn to rip as hard as you can without accuracy then work on accuracy. Look at one spot on the net and **** your body and FORCE your head into the direction of the spot you have been watching
