Give Answers for NCAA and NFHS, please. Who gets the ball on the following?

A) Goalie is in the crease and his equipment breaks and whistle is blown...
1. ball is loose inside the crease.
2. Team A has possession of the ball
3. Ball is loose outside the crease
4. A shot from Team A is enroute to the goal

B) Ball is ensnared in the net or mired in the mud and whistle is blown?
c) Inadvertent whistle ball loose in the crease?

Not going to make a guess, but I do enjoy reading the answers later.

I will however point out that for situation A you haven't identified whether it's Team A's goalie, or Team B's that busted his gear. I can infer that you're talking about B's goalie because you talk about Team A shooting, but you still probably need to clarify.

You also haven't pointed out which crease the ball is loose inside or outside for Cases A and C, and which net the ball is ensnared in for Case B.

These probably matter on at least some of the scenarios.

As for the mud on B, might it matter where on the field and how it ended up in the mud?

Assuming RockStar's inferences -

NCAA:
A rule 4-18-e (new text) doesn't have any relevant ARs and requires AP if ball is loose.
A-1 Alternate possession - ball is loose
A-2 Team A - Attack has possession
A-3 Alternate possession - ball is loose
A-4 Alternate possession - ball is loose
B Team B - Defense - rule 4-20
C Team B - Defense - rule 7-13-a exception

NFHS:
A Rule 4-27-5 requires immediate stoppage when goalie's equipment breaks, but does not address possession; therefore, it would seem that normal rules govern possession. However, normal rules do not cover this situation, since the whistle is not the result of [a] a violation (immediate, flag-down or play-on), [b] a team time-out, [c] a shot, or [d] mistake by an official. Normal official's timeouts should be taken with possession or after a scoring play is completed.
I suggest equitable practice:
A-1 Team B - defense - loose ball in crease
A-2 Team A - attack - retains possession
A-3 Alternate possession - loose ball outside crease
A-4 Team A - GK's equipment was broken before whistle sounded, while Team A had possession
B Team B - Defense - rule 4-21
C Alternate possession - ball is loose - rule 7-13-2

Seems like a gap in NFHS rules.

NCAA: agree w/ MELaxRef
NFHS: disagree with A-1 and A-4
A-1: AP
A-4: AP

NCAA and NFHS rules can be lined up as the same for when you stop play for a goalie equipment problem. NCAA 4-18 is quite explicit while NFHS 4-27 says just stop it asap and leaves the possession question unanswered. I'd go here with NCAA precedent or just commomn NFHS practice of awarding a loose ball on a whistle: Go AP.

I think the key to remember is to kill the play when someone has possession of the ball.
Shooter A1 is driving to the cage and then you notice the goalie has an equipment issue...A1 fires...ball is in flight...you blow whistle as it hits goalie in the chest. You recognized the problem when A1 had the ball (though late with your whistle) so give it back to A.

On page 45 of the NFHS 4-9-6 Sit. C has the same procedure for inadvertent whistle/ball loose in crease as in NCAA. Award to defense.
And this is why I hold my whistle on a goal for a beat or two until I am absoltely sure it's in the net.

I agree with eme about killing the play with possession.

One discussion at the convention is really applicable here.

The whistle almost never creates a dead ball situation; rather, the whistle is the delayed recognition that a dead ball situation has been created. So, in equity, when a whistle sounds with the ball in flight (pass or shot), it is often most equitable to rewind the situation to a point where possession was clear (pre-whistle) and adjudicate the decison accordingly. ARs / Situations try to do this, but can't cover every possible circumstance.
