Alright...based on reading some of the replies i was kinda confused and think some of you are getting the wrong idea. so here it goes....Blue chip 225 (not 170, 1000,390, or any other number you throw out there) is a non invitational camp. Any one who wants to go can attend. I heard its an excellent recruiting camp and plan on attending this year. Graph-Tex Blue Chip is the best recruiting venue there is. I know a kid whos going and its the top 114 sophomores in the country. Peak 200...as well as the Towson camp, are very very strong recruiting camps however you need an invite to go. The competition is very good there. Other camps such as dixie and top star are smaller college recruiting camps that im sure are very good as well, however ive never been to them.

Also, It seems like you guys are all jacked up on whos inviting you to what camps. For some of them if ur coach reccomends you then your in. Even if you are good and you did get an invite to a peak 200 or something like that. Congrats...however ur barely a quarter of the way there. The main part is going to these camps and not embarrasing you self out there. For some this isnt the case. but i kno people that thought they were the best for going to an invite only recruiting camp and coming home pissed cause the competition was just too high. So do yourself a favor...if your not that great...dont kid yourself. Your not gonna get recruited just for attending a camp. You have to perform at these camps.

Another thing with the recruiting aspect of lacrosse. I am all for emailing coaches and getting your name out there. I think its a great way to get things started. However, just cause the coach replies saying: thank you for your interest in our school please send us this and that etc...doesnt mean your getting recruited. You still have to play well...and get their attention through the lacrosse field. Basically, you guys have to be realistic. While some of you may think cause you attend a camp and email a coach, your gonna get recruited. Thats not the case. Sorry if it sounds really negative...and some of you really are the real deal and will go someplace. However some are getting the wrong impression about getting recruited

Thank you! This was and is a Excellent post re: recruiting and camps. We just attended a USNA lax clinic 2 weeks ago and my father told me there were parents in the stands talking amongst themselves who "actually thought by attending the USNA lax clinics and camps each year that you would get a look see". Kryptic would probably get a laugh out of that one. I didn't know his name, but all the middies were out on the field with us, I didn't see Dinghman though?

Graph-Tex Blue Chip is for the top 114 rising seniors in the country. You need a recommendation from a DI coach to attend. However, this year a second Graph-Tex camp is being put together for rising juniors. Your friend was invited to the rising juniors camp. I remains to be seen if the camp will be as successful as its older brother.

Not knowing the whole recruiting camp game, my son got invited to the Towson Camp and we didn't respond right away (like the second week of December) and waited until we returned from break around jan 5. It was full with an 18 man roster defensive waiting list. Yes, my sophomore son was somewhat disappointed (rising JR). But his coach, while having recommended him to Towson, suggested he go to the New England Top 150 camp instead primarily because of the elite colleges there. He can then go to the bigger camp next year as a rising senior. He went to Princeton's skills camp last year and so he will write that coach and tell him about any summer tourney's, the New England camp and a pseudo-apology for missing the opportunity to see him at the top 205 camp (that Princeton's coach co-runs) he's missing out on. Hopefully that will keep that particular IVY interested, but in NO WAY are we thinking lacrosse is going to be his ticket into college, IVY or otherwise. He is deeply talented on the field, but as parents, we have simply pushed that lacrosse (and football probably most likely at a DIII level since he's only 6-1, 210) are only icing on a successful academic cake. This is also why we invest heavily in the best helmet money can buy. :)

My question is, since we are very new to this process, at these camps do the coaches from these schools speak to the players directly or simply watch them play? On the New England website it says the college coaches actually coach, whereas I on the Rising JR Towson Camp I believe they only mentioned the number and depth of the coaches that would be there.

While i have not attended any of these camps, i would think that the coaches will send you a letter or an email expressing interest in your son after the camp is over. I dont think they will make recruiting contact at the actual camp. What would help you out a lot is to email some of the coaches that your son is interested playing for...and let them know he is attending the camp...this will give the colleges a chance to evaluate your son as a player....and thus for recieve letter after the camp. Ive heard of kids recieving anywhere from 2-15 letters after attending a camp. Good luck

Well, if coaches are actually coaching, as in if its more of an instructional camp, then coaches will only be talking to your son as an instructor. No recruiting will go on at any camp, during the camp. Afterwards, NCAA says coaches may speak to prospects, but I think most people notice the interest a few days later when emails and such are sent.
