Team A has possession and B1 commits a technical foul, flag down. A1 scores a goal on the play, but the officials insist that B1 serve 30 seconds for the technical foul anyway. Coach B protests vehemently, but to no avail, since the officials have made the correct call.

What is going on here?

I believe it's in the NFHS Book about a player leaving a penalty early on his own accord.
Goal stands and he gets another 30 added on. This is different from the NCAA rule whereby that goal would wipe out his remaing R time plus wiping out that addtional 30 seconds.

Stick check on A1 reveals an illegal stick, therefore, both A1 (1 minute, or more) and B1 (30 seconds) serve time and the first 30 seconds is NR?

eme got it. ShrekJr's approach is novel, but in his example there actually is no goal since it's wiped out. But it's a good argument!
