Ok so I was playing on a lacrosse game Saturday and saw something very unsportsmanlike. One of the players on my team was slashed in the head 3 times in a row before my teammate got mad and decked someone on the other team (see Bench Clearing Fights (http://www.lacrosseforums.com/showthread.php?t=71026)). Now i was just wondering if there was a rule about the amount of slashes one team can get on another in a row before the play is stopped, or what a ref should do if fighting breaks out.

depends on whether or not it's deemed to be dangerous; i.e. a player could get hurt, etc..

play would usually stop if the penalties were excessive, and this seems excessive, and out of control. even though the player still had posession, it's up to the ref to stop play.

yes, but if you saw three players intently hitting one guy, wouldn't you think it to be excessive.

If the 3 guys were just whaling on the player for sport, not trying to check his stick or get the ball, they would likely be ejected from my game for flagrant misconduct.
I have penalized a player for 3 slashes on one play though - two flags and a hat. I'm glad he didn't go for a fourth - it might have gotten ugly!

Last season I dropped all of my laundry on the field for an attacker being slashed 3 times (high but not to the head) by 3 different players while moving towards the goal (and scored, too!). In this case, it is excessive as well but I would not kill the play while the attacker has a chance to score. If I had to stop play because the slashes were severe enough to warrant flagrant misconduct, then certainly the ejection of all 3 players will happen.
