ok im a lil confused, earlier this summer i was at butler camp and for attackmen they told us to plant with our top foot bc you could turn faster and comeout of the dodge quicker, then i went to a different camp and they told us to try to plant your inside foot in between the defenders feet, do you do the first type of roll dodge wen ur running and have space and then the second wen your defenders up real close??

speaking as a defender (i know only one person who does this) i hate it when the attack goes to rolldodge and plants their right on top of mine. sometimes it can hurt plus my foot is pinned down so when u role u will have a step or two advantage

ya planting between a dmans legs ties up his stick and all he can do is push you but if you roll when he pushes then hes way behind

i as a d pole i'm not really good at the roll dodge, but i always teach it where you plant your foot between the defenders feet. i'm not sure what you mean with the first one, but if there's more than one way to do it, do the one that oyu are most confortable with
attack, if you step on my foot while roll dodging, i'm going to hurt you. seriously. dont piss off the guy with the big stick.

Make it like your boxing them out thats what i do, stick your outside leg inbetween their legs, roll and you have them right where you want them, behind you. This also gives you more options, you can break the other way from this position as well, as soon as you plant your outside leg between theirs, fake the roll and go the opposite way

the main aspect of a roll dodge is timing. A good dman is taught to push you away and then check. So when you get close and plant your back to him you will feel him coming in (it's hard to achieve this but experience is the only way, get prepared to get knocked on your *** a few times while polishing up the technique)-- so when you feel him coming in to push you ROLL quickly and go %100 thats when you explode when he lunges forward, he just hits the air and is left offstep and you blow by him. It works for me everytime, my favorite dodge.

behind them? i dont think that work to well when hes rite in front of you, how do you get behind him without dodging or anything?

When you roll lean back like three quarters on ur planting heel...It will make your roll alot quicker and most likely catch the dman off guard. Also switch up your dodges..(i.e. split to roll, roll to split, zig-zag, rocker, q-mark, pump fake. stutterstep)
