good legal checks are light slaps and definitely the amazing poke check.
Youn cant crosscheck, push from behind, completely whack people or hit them in the helmet

stick checking is allowed on the arms, hands, and stick. Refs get alittle edgy if you check a shoulder or near the back. Sometimes it can be made a penalty. You cant wind up too much, so poke checks are good. Just dont slap the helmet, legs, or neck.

Physically, any hit (body check) above the waist + below the shoulders is good as long as you are at the same height/level of the player you're hitting, and you hit them from the front (or from the side with your head in the front). You cant spear, you cant have your arms extended, and you cant hit in the neck, head, go for the legs, or crosscheck.

Generally thats the rules and the way to hit someone. Also, you cannot ice pick (using the but end in a "stabbing" motion to stick check. But you can sometimes use the pole to stick check, but its not a good idea or an effective check.
