I'm currently a junior and was wondering if you guys could give any advice.
I want to play in college but I know I'm not good enough for D1, but i want to play in Lower level DII, DIII. As a junior I've already begun thinking of which colleges i want to apply to, including ones which happen to have DII, DIII programs, such as Clark, Connecticut College, and Colby.
I am going to send an email (if i can find them) to each of the head coaches. What should I include in the email? I also have no gametapes i can send them because I have never played Varsity (this is my schools first year as varsity).
Would it be appropriate to ask which camps that they would be attending over the summer? Would lower level DII, DIII coaches even attend recruiting camps?
thanks in advance

Lafayette is DI and I wouldn't consider it lower by any standards.. not in lacrosse and certainly not in academics.

Lafayette is a great academic school located in a nice town, but it is without a doubt, lower tier in lax. 6-32 over the past three years?? I live in PA, and know the PA kids who they recruit, and they are lower tier D1 level players.

You should be able to find the coaches e-mail on the school's website. Since you have not played varsity, you dont have much of a story to tell. Write 2-3 short paragraphs expressing your interest in their college, list your GPA-SATs,
and ask about what camps they will be at or hosting. If you have already selected camps, tell the coaches what camps you will be attending.
If you have a good Spring season, send a follow up e-mail in early June, and alert the coach to what camps you will be attending in the Summer.
Have a parent proofread your e-mail before you hit send.

Thanks guys. Lower tier is good for me since i cant ask for much more hah.
Do the coaches (from the lower DII, DIII) usually go to recruitment camps such as Top 205, 150, Dixie, etc.?

You are a junior, not varsity? First, can you afford going to a camp or two this summer? If you are not varsity this year may be hard to go to an invitation recruiting camp like Top 250, but that would be good exposure. Otherwise you can try a camp like the Brown Challenge Camp or other that does not require selection. Then if there is a college that for academic reasons you like, try that one. My son went to a Gettysburg/Hampton Sydney camp, performed well, and there was a level of interest from each.
Otherwise, remember that Dlll, being they offer no scholarships, are open to walk-ons. If they recruit you it means you do not have to win a spot in Fall tryouts. That is it. Big deal, you want to play, so if you are good enough you can earn your way on. Talk to the schools. We talked to one that said if you work hard, they would carry you. Others have club teams. Don't make roster year 1, play club to build your game and try out again.
Good luck.

Yea I went to the Brown Challenge Camp and there were a ton of East Coast D3 schools there—especially NESCACs. (Conn. Coll and Colby for you)
