I'm not sure where i heard this but someone told me it was bad to do pushups and sit ups before bed. Is this true? Because that is when I'm most motivated to do them.

excercising gives you more energy because it release chemicals in your brain(adrenaline and something else), thus keeping you awake. i do it all the time. i run on a tredmill and do sit ups/push ups then shower and go to sleep and i have no problems.

but that would be the scientific reason why you should'nt do it

I used to run a mile or so in my development before bed, and then Id be a little tired (considering i already had practice) and just grab a water bottle and hit the sac. I dont see why push/sit ups would have any bad effects

if anything, push ups and sit ups have made me fall asleep faster.

excercising gives you more energy because it release chemicals in your brain(adrenaline and something else), thus keeping you awake.
the chemicals your thinking of are endorphins, released in the synapses of your nerves, otherwise known as "the happy chemical". there released when you exercise. ive heard that a run around the block is more potent than a cup of coffee.

anyway, i cant think of any reason why that would be bad. exercise is exercise, and if you do it before bed, your not using the muscles and is warm (so they won't cramp up)

its can be bad because it gets ur blood pumping so when you get ready to actually fall asleep you cant because ur pumped and awake. it differs for ppl like it dosent bother me if i do them right b fore bed

sorry for reviving a dead topic, but i thought ihad some good input. depending on the person, working out before going to sleep might keep them wide awake for the next 2 hours, and some people it has no effect on, and furthermore some people are put to sleep by it. i personally think that its great to do if your plannig a hard workout, because then it will give your muscles plenty of time to react and recooperate from the workout while your sleeping.

You also put food into you for bed, eat cottage cheese before bed as it is one of the best foods you can eat.

I can't sleep for a while after exercising, it sucks because sometimes our games don't end until 11:30, I ususally cant sleep before 2

Early in the morning.. like a little while after you wake up. Best time to workout.

i personally think working out before bed is ridiculous. i mean everyones life is so different sometimes i may not even be able to begin to know what kind of things hold you back from your workouts until bed? I work out everyday, weights and all, and the thought of doing it before bed never even crosses my mind. why? what is the point, what are the benefits? Better yet im going to use my common sense here for a second.

when you just got done with a really hard workout.. does your coach not tell you to get up off the ground if your lying down after practice? if he doesn't your coach is an idiot because your muscles cramp more likely and you get less air while lying down then while up right.

now just a thought, after a workout i would like the maximum amount of oxygen in my system and the least probable chances of cramping up. work out in the morning, after school, before dinner... it just makes more sense. there is nothing BAD about doing it before bed but there are more benefits when doing it earlier in the day. I worked out right after school and now im sitting at the computer at home with energy to do homework, and go to practice at 7 and i just ate a protein bar and drank a gatorade to get everything back in my system and so i get something out of my workout with the protein. my muscles will rebuild when i sleep.
