I am looking for a highley portable but yet affordable laptop. Up to $1200. I want the laptop to have Windows Vista. Any recommendations on a laptop or just a brand that carries portable laptops for cheaper prices?

Dells are probably the best mix of quality and affordability. The Inspiron series is pretty nice, I have an E1505 and its perfect for everything I do.

He said he wants it for Vista. Plus the cheapest Macbook is listed at $1100, which doesn't give him the plethora of options he'd have choosing otherwise.

seriously, even some hard core windows users don't even like vista... it stinks...

I consider myself a hardcore Windows/PC guy. Personally, at the moment, I'll stick with my XP. I wouldn't say Vista stinks though. I just know I should wait at least 6 months to let them work out all the kinks and patches. And seriously everyone in here preaching Macs, seriously, he said he doesn't want one, he wants a PC. There are uses where PCs are better, as there are uses where Macs are better. Evidently he is choosing the PC route.
