i'm not a big prince fan but i don't dislike him either. i also thought that he was one of the most underrated guitar players of all time before the halftime show and i think he showed that somewhat. anyway, i was fine when he was doing his songs and was even okay when he started doing jimmi because i know that's his idol. but when he started doing best of you by the foo fighters i wanted to turn it off. not that the foo's are to good for him but the different vocal range of him and dave grohl are complete opposites. grohls low growling voice and then princes high somewhat female voice dosn't work. i don't know why he felt the need to do that song or why the foo's gave him the okay to sing it. did this tick anyone else off?

thoughts on this and the whole performance? and on billy joel and the national anthem i thought he was alright.

Darling Nicki off of the Purple Rain album was covered by the Foo Fighters and actually turned into a big hit. Maybe he was just repaying the favour. You are right though, when I first heard it I had no idea what song he was singing. Seems kinda weird that he had the stage with millions of people watching him and he sings three covers and only two of his own songs. I guess he forgot how to sing most of his own songs.

That was actually a real good halftime show IMO. I personally really like Prince, and his music. I did think it was wierd though that he would do the best of you. It just didn't seem right

Prince dominated that halftime show.

I don't know what you could complain about, I mean the man performed flawlessly in the rain. I mean the man was a true professional, he got the crowd into it, and he put on one kick (rear) show.

I'm not a huge Prince fan, but I respect his music. Lets face it, after the Rolling Stones, Janet Jackson, etc...this halftime show actually made me want to stick around to see what they put on for next year.

I couldn't agree more.

Personally I felt this year's halftime show was much better than McCartny or the Stones, both of which felt very lackluster to me. But Prince put out a good set, and didn't let the rain faze him.

My Dad, who still thinks halftime shows should be a marching band affair only (and some years he is right) felt that Prince put on a show that made you stay in your seat and not use it as another exuce to hit the bathroom to avoid not missing commercials.

Prince is entertaining even in the case that he doesn't sound very great.

Fortunately, he always sounds great. Its just his style, maybe its not your taste. I enjoyed it, but was sitting at the edge of my seat waiting for When The Doves Cry.

noooo! heh

eh, I was actually impressed on how well he played guitar last night. I didn't know he was anywhere that good...

Anywho, yeah I'm not gonna lie I would have liked to have seen someone else do the show, but none the less, he did a pretty good job. I give him a thumbs up.

EXCEPT when he sang The Best Of You. That drove me crazy.

I personally hate Prince. I can honestly say that during the half time show was the only time i changed the channel the whole game. I cant stand him.

I'm not a fan of his music but I am a huge fan of his guitar playing. He's a great guitar player that no1 really mentions and I think he showed some of his skills last nite. I thought it was a pretty good performance.

No no no.

They asked if they could cover Darling Nicki and he said no, and then they did it anyways. SO this is his little wink at them.

Um. Most bands that people "under 20" know suck. Not to mention the majority of people who watch the super bowl are 18+

prince was awsome, i think the reason he didn't play many of his other hits is because many of princes songs are a little on the risque side, and because now that he is a baptist he pledged not to play his dirty songs

perfect reasons for prince to perform at the show

-He's trying a comeback so NFL obviously got him for cheap
-Its a certain Month for history of a race (and they couldn't get anyone that didn't rap)

PS> the above comment was an opinion

Actually, The Artst Currently Known as Prince is a practicing Jehovah's Witness, but yes he is less risque than he used to be.

I really wanted to hear him play Trust, knowing it would be a huuuuuuge longshot, but it's my favorite Prince song.

i think he was the 2nd best halftime show in the last few years next to Sir Paul McCartney not McCarthy. at least get his name right he is the best and most famous musician of all time. how can you get better for a show than a former beatle? let me answer that question you can't. even if he is 60. talk about getting the crowd involved. i guarantee everyone in the crowd was singing along to hey jude at the end. i know i was at home.

I completely missed my misspelling of his name... I edited it, there you go.

But then again when it came to the Beatles I only had eyes (and ears) for Lennon. I just didn't care for Sir Paul's set (and I've never liked Hey Jude, ever. period.), nor Sir Mick (& the gang)'s. Yeah he got the cowd involved, so did the Stones, so did Jackson & Timberlake. And so did Prince.

Now I don't recall any question I didn't answer, I only stated my preference as far as the past few halftime shows have gone. As of 2007, only Prince has done it for me. So obviously I don't share the opinion of yours that McCarntey is the be all, end all of music and halftime shows. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

i can definetly understand you perfering john's voice to paul. so do i. he was the f'n man. it sucks what happened to him. i get pissed every time i think about. so i'll stop.

i also can see how the geriatric mccartney could turn some people off to the more up tempo shredding performance of prince. so i guess i can see your side to it. but i still love paul.

I won't fault you for loving Paul.

My mom loves Paul. I bought her the Todd McFarlane Yellow Submarine toy for her birthday a few years back. She sang along to Hey Jude...I just ran Instant Karma on the internal jukebox in my head until it was over...

Oh man, I am utterly revolted that they chose Prince to do the half time show.

He's never been good, he is not a very good guitar player, I detest his voice, and he completely butchered those covers he played. A disgrace to the American public, and I find him quite ugly too.

I would rather see the rolling stones or paul anyday. I am embarrased and irratated that they would have such a talentless man like Prince take over the half time show.

i'll only disagree with you in that he's not a disgrace to the american public so you can chill out with that and that he's actually a great guitar player and very underrated at that. you probably don't play the guitar so you may not have the same appreciation for his playing that i do. and i can't say i agree or disagree with the fact that you think he's ugly because i don't swing that way. not that there's anything wrong with that. (please tell me there's some seinfeld fans on this forum)

Well, to each his own. I still think he is a disgrace. I used to play the guitar, but I stopped several months ago, I was never fantastic, but I know a good guitar player when I see one. There are much better guitar players out there than prince. As far as my thinking he is ugly, I'm a completely heterosexual male, but even so, from a guys perspective, Prince is one ugly individual.

And I didn't mind watching his female dancers.

there are a lot of better guitar players out there. i definetly wouldn't put him in the top 10. not even top 20. but still i just think he's a better player than a lot of people give him credit for. about you thinking i was saying you were gay that was just a joke. i guess you're not a seinfeld fan and didn' understand the little bit of humor at the end of the post.

laxiceman - clearly you do not know a good guitar player from a bad one if you are trying to argue taht Prince is a not a good guitar player. I'm not saying he's top 10 material at all but I am saying he is a great great guitar player. His improv solos and riffs are edgy and well played. his technique was as well good - the picking of the strings at that speed for improv in the manner he did it was perfect - his fingers were so strong/fast he was able to pull off a solo most ppl could only dream of playin and he did it w/o even picking... he is a great guitarist and you can't deny his skill - just b/c u dont prefer his vocals or his looks doesnt mean he's not a good guitar player. I'm sry but you are waayyy off base here and im pretty sure most ppl would agree with me that he's a good guitar player. now like i said im not a prince fan but when he whips out his guitar i like to listen

I yet again agree, Prince blew it away in the rain, with a bandana on, and a perm... not many people can pull that off. If you were expecting some haggard
"band" like Fall Out Boy or something, you must remember the target age for the super bowl is like 21+... but back to Prince I was bummed that he didn't play "When Doves Cry"...

effeminate i'd say.just cause he likes purple dosn't mean he's gay. if you listen to some of his early songs a lot of them are pretty suggestive.

well i thought he was very good on the guitar but it was annoying how he tried to mimmic jimi hendrix for example anyone that has seen his woodstock video would notice that prince was making all the same faces and expresssions and he went overboard.
