Add salt to the water to raise the temperature.
Keep water BOILING hot the whole time.
Keep head in for a long time.
SEARCH- there have been many threads on how to dye a head black. There is even a tutorial on it.

keep it in a long time. Make sure you keep heating or reheat the water.

1 pack black 1 pack navy or equal parts navy and black if you use liquid.....easy as that. its the only real trick there is.

well you could probably get best results by dyeing it a few days straight. for example, dye it really good black on monday. let it dry. dye it black on tuesday. let it dry....and so on for like 4 to 5 days

What I do to get a very good black dye is to first dye the head a dark blue. The next day I dye it in a supersaturated solution of black that had been brought to a boil with some salt added. I leave it in there until the water chills. It has never failed me.
