I have seen a bunch of threads that say crosslace can be used in place of sidewall string. I have my doubts about this because isn't sidewall string thicker than crosslace??? If it is thinner, isn't it more prone to breaking than thicker sidewall string???

I'm not really sure what you're asking here....When I read your title I thought you were questioning sidewall string, but after reading your post I'm not sure if you're for sidewall for sidewall or crosslace for sidewall.

I use crosslace for everything, i think it stays tighter and it works pretty much the same as sidewall...

Crosslace is thinner, but some people like it to get their mesh tighter to the head. Others like sidewall because it is a bit stronger. It's up to you, but yes it is more prone to breaking. (but not by much)

I mean when you use crosslace for a custom or traditional pocket is it necessary to use sidewall string or can you use crosslace instead???

You can use crosslace for both sidawall and the custom.

I use crosslace for everything.

If you string a head right, it wont wear nearly as fast.

yea i use sidewall when stringing regulara sticks, but crosslace works alot better, you sacrifice some strength but you can get the sidewalls much much tighter.

i personally like using sidewall because it lasts longer, but like everyone has said, you can get crosslace tighter. but in your case, if you're doin a custom you ant the sidewalls to last longer, so you wont have to redo the whole thing, so to answer your question, yes it is necessary.but yeah serch next time tons of threads on this.
