ok this happened to me last season i was in goal and there was a cutting coming from GLE and the ball was at top right. so of course i read the pass goin to the guy at GLE and went for the hit and i killed the guy but in the process got a penalty for a hit in the back (app. he turned his back at the last sec.) but anyways we didnt have another dressed goalie cause we dont have a back up..... but i still had to leave the game.....(we dressed another player while my coach called a timeout) so my question is do i have to come out of the game if i get a penalty and we dont have another dressed goalie or can another player serve my penalty?????

no you have to serve all the penalties except for a technical fouls which are served by the inhome. i got a penalty last year when we traveled to a game for an illegal hit (which was load of crap only got the penalty cause i hurt the kid) but we dont have a back up either but the thing is you dont have to waste a timeout there they give you time to dress another person its when the penalty is over that you ahve to call a timeout to swtich back. luckily no goals were let up but thats the price to pay for killing someone and its all worth it

yes, you do have to serve your penalty, but it was a bad call. I know they arent supposed to call hits in the back when they spin.

some refs have issues with the spinning. and i think at the hs level at least, goalies have the option to stay in and someone else can serve the penalty thats on the field at the time.

The rules are clear. There is no exemption given by the rules to the goal keeper for personal fouls. That said, an official, league, school system or state could choose to not play according to the rules in an effort to speed up the game.

This is wrong. Period.

To elaborate on LaxRef's comment, goalies have to serve all penalty time according to NFHS, NCAA, and ILF rules.
That being said, I know there are some leagues that make exceptions for technical fouls and some that make exceptions for all personal fouls besides unsportsmanlike conduct fouls. However, I've never seen these rule adjustments for high school leagues. They're in either youth leagues or adult club leagues. So, if you're playing for a high school team, it's a safe assumption that you'll have to serve your own penalty time.
