some observations regarding the minimum of 6 stickchecks.

1. The time taken to do the checks is a bit longer now because we can't find our tapes due to multiple layers of clothing and pockets, our gloves, and our fingers are frozen and not working.
2. One official can measure one stick. If there's a problem then bring the R in.
3. Forget about measuring the length of a D pole. Not relevant.
4. No law against doing two sets at the same time...if you have time.
5. Grab sticks heading into a TO. Or a half time. That way the flow of the game is impacted less.

EME is right on ...

Some other thoughts....is there a long pole made greater than 72 inches? if not then why not just measure up to 52 inches then measure the head of the crosse. That might save time?

Also I feel the center or trail should get the goal scorer that way the lead can signal the goal, get the ball, then get a D stick that is normally around the crease anyway. Also it helps because the C and Trail are staying with the shooter anyway to make sure we call the late hits.

Are there any other time savings ideas?

Since one guy already has the tape measure out, let him measure both sticks...especially when working with eme or myself so we don't have to mess with taking off all the layers.

Keep on the look out for guys sprinting off the field amidst the confusion after a goal. I don't know if it was intentional - but I noticed it this weekend. A player scores a goal on a sweep play and keeps on going to the side line. He was off the field and assimilated in the crowd before the ball was removed from the net.

That's why you get the stick first.

AS NCLAXREF pointed out, single side has his eyes on the shooter after a shot anyway to watch for late hit...let him get the scrorer's stick while lead signals goal, gets ball, and then grabs a random D pole on his way out of the crease. Trail official, as usual, watches the field/celebration/taunting, etc.

Guys, I know most of you know this trick, but:

Watch for the scorer shaking hands with his buddies after the goal. That's a great time to dish the modified stick to a teammate and take hold of a clean one just in time for the measurement.

We just had a few games using the NCAA rules.

First off, there needs to be some talk about how and when these are applied. It clearly held up the continuous spirit of the game. The next game they compensated for it by just checking the FO middies sticks about 5x. The main advantage to having an illegal stick is to possess the ball and score. Check the sticks the first goal scored and (depending on the scoring) each goal or two after that. I won't lie, we had two goals taken away due to illegal sticks, but for some reason not many (if any) of their stick checks were on their goal scorers.

In addition, one of my players pounded his pocket in prior to handing his stick over to the refs...1 min unsportsmanlike obviously. The next day, with 2 out of three refs being the same, the opposing player does the same and the reason he didn't get called was because "his stick was no where near illegal". 1) either it's illegal or it's not 2) consistancy is all I want out of refs.

That being said, not switching to the way the girls do it (that being all the players lining up and checking all the sticks, before the game starts) is stupid.
