The home team is required to supply the balls, and the rules say that white, yellow, or orange balls may be used. Thus, if the coach supplies yellow balls, he has met his statutory obligation, and we're going to play. . . provided those yellow balls bear the NFHS authenticating mark. If not, I guess it's a forfeit . . . . :chuckle: (Just kidding!)
There do not appear to be any A.R.s in the book that support any other position. In NCAA, of course, the balls must be white unless the coaches agree to use a different color. This seems fair to me.

1.5 Situation addresses changing the color of the ball. Both coaches must agree.
I think a very narrow reading would allow one color (white, yellow or orange) but only one color before a change. I think all of the balls must be the same color and if a change is made then all of the balls must be the same ‘new’ color (white, yellow or orange).

The home coach gets to pick the ball color, as long as it's a legal one. I have one coach who purposely uses yellow balls just to tick off certain visiting coaches, and that is his perogative.
After play has started, the color can be changed as long as both coaches agree to the change.
