My friend told me that the average height of a college lacrosse defenseman is 6 feet and 3 inches.

Confirm/Deny

thats probably close but thats an average. I've seen guys who were 5'8-9 all the way up to 6'6-7. So that very well could be the average but it means nothing although i am 6'2

are we talking DI,II or III? I would say the average was more like 6'1 or 6'2

How much would you say an average high school kid grows between Sophomore and Senior year?

Not much, probably at the most an inch, maybe two.

Nah, average? I'd say more...like 3-4 inches.

But some kids sprout up a foot, who knows?

Don't try and predict it, use your current size to your advantage.

Just look at family members, on both parents sides. You'll probably be between those.

Most College defensemen are 6 ft and +
I can't think of any less then that off the top of my head.

i have actually looked into this before and i looked at many rosters for DIII and DI and an average height is probably 6'-1"....although there is 5'10' or so D on almost every team...along with a 6'5" guy or something

i would agree with that. most college defensemen are over 6 foot. and around 215-230 lbs.

they are are generally big boys who have great stick skills and can lay a big hit when needed.

and generally there fast if your a small guy you have to have great stick skills coming out of high school and be quick and fast and have a lot of knowledge about the game because really why a lot of college defenseman are huge is because coaches just love athletic guys who are beast so that the coaches can teach them the skills and then there going to be dominant because they have the knowledge and are going to be strong athleticly but its not impossible to make a d1 roster as a small defenseman

I agree that most defensemen are tall, but I've played with some excellent former college defensemen who were 5'9" to 5'11":
Wolf Droh (5'9", Clark Univ. club)
Matt Meredith (5'11", Tufts)
Andy Schanno (5'10", Army, former high school All American)
Andy Behles (5'10", Goucher)

Both Andy's played on the German national team (Schanno in 2001 when Germany won the European Championship, where he was one of the all stars and Behles in 2006). Andy Schanno was the best defenseman I've ever coached and played together with.

Im 6'0 as a high school sophomore, yet only around 150... I have great stick skills and good footwork, and have great awareness and can hold GLE, but my hitting is not as powerful as i would like... Any tips?

Yeah, teams have a way of, um, fibbing a bit in programs. We used to play against Doug Flutie in high school...for football he was listed as 6 feet (I still have the program from Thanksgiving 1980, the last time we played him)....in basketball I think he was listed as 6'2". He's actually 5'9" or 10"

In all seriouness, hit the weight room. And if you do, check with the coaches at your school and see if they would help you set up a schedule so you can lift correctly and more effeciently.

Would you guys think LSM's are smaller? I know that the guy who plays for cuse is 5'9 or 5'10. Im just about 5'10 right now...160 and im not a small kid compared to other highschool sophmores...I think speed has more to do with LSM then weight.

I think it depends on the position. Attack a nd midfield tend to be a little shorter, although there are a few freaks (I consider everyone taller than I, a freak. I am 5'11") Defense in general tends tto be very large and intimidating (a good tactic). these observations are just that, observations. they are just based on what I see.
