So last day of our tryouts were yesterday, this would be my fourth year playing lax for school, I'm a senior. We have a new coach, so I wasn't sure what to expect. So during tryouts I'm sick with a bad cold, but fight through the fatigue and coughing. I made a few physical mistakes, dropped passes, wrong cuts, but I hussled the entire time and pushed myself th whole way. Yesterday my coach emailed and told me that I had been cut, but i could be head manager and still help him out, be his assistant, and help the team. Needless to say, I was crushed. I stared at my computer screen for a good 45 minutes and then just sat down in my room for 2 hours doing nothing, just sitting. It was tough at school, because everyone associates me with lax, and I had to tell them I was cut, but it helped that my teammates were supportive. This afternoon, I had to go to coach to turn in my school helmet, and I told him thanks for giving me the opportunity to try out and I'll consider his decision. Well this evening, I get a phone call from the coach, and he asks me if I would like a spot on the team, of course I said yes. Turns out that there were some problems at attack, along with people getting the flu, and that I was wanted to "to be the man to come in and help out, score some goals, and have fun". I have no idea what transpired in the three hours between me giving up my helmet, and him calling me. But I went from really being depressed that I wont be able to play lax my senior year, to being ecstatic. Lax is my life, and I will never take for granted playing again. Just wanted to share my joy.
edit: he also told me that the way i presented myself when turning in my helmet showed great character, and that was what the team needed.

Make sure you use your second chance as an inspiration to always go balls to the wall, realizing that you are lucky to have the opportunity.
Congrats man.

Similar to my story...I got cut because my ankle is messed up. I busted me arse at tryouts and pretty much further screwed my ankle. Coach had told me before that I could still play in a month.
But, yours ends happily...Mine doesnt. :bawling:
Good luck though.

wow. congrats. as everyone else say, shred it up. when you go to chjeck somone, think of them as the reason why you might not have played this yer. let em have it too since those chances wont come up much as youre an attack.

wow, character in the face of adversity and not taking your gifts for granted...two great life lessons...your brief saga was very inspiring...
I've been having a tough time with all the labor-intensive work at our new Xtreet Sports Center...your tale has inspired me to get back down there tomorrow morning and work my butt off...thanks, man!

well, i just got back from practice, and it was pretty much the best practice of my life. I hustled, dominated ground ball drills, made a few assists in 4 v 3's, and scored a few. I went up to my coach after practice and thanked him, he said" Thanks yourself, you deserved it, and your play today jusified my decision." So it went pretty well, thanks for the kind words, guys.

there is a great lance armstrong quote i will put here when i find it
EDIT: Found it: "If you ever get a second chance in life for something, you've got to go all the way."
- Lance Armstrong
show that coach what you can do man, work harder than you ever have
i would of hated to be the person who made it, and then was cut to be replaced by you.....that would of sucked....
