View Full Version : Stringing with monster/wide mesh

Just strung up an Eclipse with wide mesh. The pocket is inconsistent for throwing. It makes great saves and throws great most of the time but sometimes the ball gets stuck in the pocket and goes all over the place. Obviously, I can't have this during a game. The ball get hung up in the mesh right at the first shooting string. I have tried making a " U" instead of three shooters across. I have put 4 shooters across too! I have tried pulling the mesh down tighter at the throat to reduce excess mesh in the pocket too! Nothing seems to work! When I roll the ball in the pocket I can see where (about 1/2 way up the head) the ball could and does get snagged.

I know this is probably a simple adjustment, but again this is my first time stringing monster/wide mesh on a goalie head! My friend who is an experienced stringer told me to stay away from monster/wide mesh on a goalie head. He says he never get the pocket just right!

Comments/Help??:banghead:bye

I guess he means gradually loosen the shooting strings from top to bottom cuz that's what I'd do.

well there are 2 styles of shooters. woven or wrapped(rolled). the wrapped ones work the best by far for any pocket. so try that. make it like 1 under the first row of diamonds, then anothe shooter on the next line, then skip a line and make another. thats wut works for me when makin mega mesh pockets.

I know about this "tight to loose/top to bottom" theory already.

thanks to all who answered! I will juts try to adjust the shooters until I get it right!

Does anyone ever fold or cut the mesh on the sidewall. I know this sounds stupid, but the piece of wide mesh almost seems to big for the head?!?:banghead

no dont do that, just keep it like it came. if its wider than the head, thats a good thing, just string it with closed sidewall and ur set.
