View Full Version : My poor luck means I need a new head.

Unfortunately my sacred deuce finally did what so many others have done, the sidewall snapped. It still works but I am gonna need a new head very soon.
I have been doing some research and the 3 heads that interest me are the Warrior Helix, the Warrior Evo Pro, and the Brine Clutch.
I play midfield for my varsity team, and also take faceoffs. What I want out of my head is something that will perform shooting wise, but also be able to form a crazy pocket so I can pull some fat fakes and jukes. I am a fan of warrior gear so I am biased as it is.
Please post saying which head you think would be the best for me, and why. Not just "oh the clutch is the best head ever" this isn't a preference thread but a thread for facts. Maybe an explanation of how the helix's reverse flare helps, and your experiences with it.
Thank you for your time and help, this is a difficult decision for me. My deuce lasted less than a year before it cracked :(.

I havnt had experience first hand with the Evo Pro, but I know some people that have warped theirs taking face-offs. Ive also heard the same thing quite a bit here.
So maybe stay away from that.
A thread for facts?
Fact: how a stick performs "shooting wise" and its ability to pull off "fat fakes and jukes" is almost entirely decided by the pocket. If that's all you're looking for, you might as well go with the cheapest one, because they can all throw fat fakes and they all shoot well.

^^ some some may have more holes to make a better pocket where he wants it.
as for face offs, i've heard that the clutch is a solid head that is light and also stiff.
^^ some some may have more holes to make a better pocket where he wants it. In that case, the Clutch has the most stringing holes.

Evo Pro: Will warp if you take face offs
Helix: PM AM17
Clutch: I have it and love it. Awesome pinch, as light as a PP(which is just one gram more than a Deuce), extremely stiff, and you can get a pocket where ever you want.

Evo Pro is great offensive minded head, However it seems amazing for a few faceoffs, but after those 3 faceoffs, it will warp or break.
Helix,--I don't think it will do so well on faceoffs due to the outer flare making it harder to plunge in a way I guess, but that means less withholding penalties.
Clutch-- Mad stiff, Havn't seen one warp yet, seen one break, but not warp, the way the bottom sidewall rails are thicker create it harder to warp.

I own a clutch and i've had a little experience with both the evo pro and helix...
Clutch-At first i thought this head wouldn't be great for faceoffs, i was wrong. Its very stiff, but after taking a couple draws becomes a little bendy on the sides, perfect for plungers. It has so many stringing holes, i love it. I'm also a faceoff man, and i deffinatly recogmend this head. A lotta holes, stiff, very nice scoop, whats there not to like? Also, it has kind of a reverse flare, so you wont have to worry to much about it warping or the ball getting stuck for a while.
Helix-I played with my friends, wasn't a big fan of the pinch or the twisted sidewalls. Just not my kinda head... I don't have to m uch detail for this head..
Evo pro-Has a nice pinch, is alright stiffness wqise, but it WILL warp on you, and fast. I've seen many of these heads warp to the point of being illegal, and they all happeneed pretty fast. If you can somehow keep this from warping, its a good head.
As you can probly see, i suggest the clutch..

Yeah, I have an evo pro. Love it. But once the season comes around I dunno what Ill do for the face-offs cause it already comes so factory pinched that the ball gets stuck in the throat at the back. After some pressure on it it'll warp real bad.

i have the clutch and like u i like to do a bunch of fakes, jukes, and love shoot. and so far the clutch is doing all that for me and plus u can make ur pocket how u want it. so go wit the clutch imo

Get the Helix. The flared bottom sidewalls mean it won't trap the ball like an Evo Pro, even though it has the same/better pinch on it. It's a decently stiff head as well.

if you take draws stay away from the helix you would have to pinch the flaird back to make it idea for taking faceoffs and then its prettymuch worthless.
the clutch will do you fine, great head its stood up to countless draws at the college level and has not flinched once.
the ev pro is sweet but it will warp fast.
out of your 3 choices the Clutch looks like it would suit you best

You can always get a new Duece if you liked it.
There's a second generation out now so they fixed the seam at sidewalls now.
But yeah i've read very good things about the brine clutch.
It makes me want one..

Alright, I can't talk too much about the Clutch, but I do own two evo pros and a helix.
Evo Pro- A great head, great pinch, easy to string, great scoop, nice and light. BUT, you're taking faceoffs, so I definitely would not use this head. It becomes illegal faster than many other heads would.
Helix- Ok, this reverse flare does look really weird. But believe me. Its great. I can still form a nice low pocket (despite a the rumors here on tlf) or even a nice mid pocket. The reverse flare also makes it great for faceoffs because it wont become illegal quickly.
Clutch- I personally dont own one (BUT I WANT ONE SO BAD) but ive heard they are THE head to own. Great stringing holes, scoop, pinch, stiffness. But, ive heard that it may be too stiff for faceoffs.
In my opinion, for a face off middie choosing between those three heads, Id get the helix.
feel free to pm me with any questions.
