View Full Version : Maryland-Georgetown
This should be a really good matchup. Im gonna go tommorrow and I'm a big fan of both, but on this Im going with Gtown over Maryland in a pretty close game, like 12-10 or so. Im thinking Jerry Lambe (sp?) will shut down Mike Phipps well, Miles Kass should have a good game, and Brendan Cannon and Trevor Casey should do well too. Their both good defensive teams, but I think GTowns got them on offense. But we'll see.

HOYAS WIN 8-6!!
GU was up 6-1 at the end of the first half. In the third quarter, the Terps came roaring back, scoring four unanswered legal goals. In the fourth quarter (I think; it may have been the third), one Terp goal was disallowed because the refs did a stick check on the Terp player and found that the ball stayed in the pocket when the stick was inversed.
That third quarter was amazing. I'm a Hoyas fan, and the Terp fan standing next to me (it was standing-room only) commented that it looked like a totally different Terp team. We both agreed that the Terp coach musta lit a fire under his players' tushies during half-time. However, after a little reflection, I did remember that the way the Maryland (women's) lacrosse and field hockey pitch is set up, the length of the field runs East-West, so by the third quarter, the Hoya goalie had the sun setting right in his eyes. So how much it was an increased effort by the Terps, or the effects of the sun, I dunno.
Either way, it was a great game to watch.
^ good recap, Just would like to add that Lambe had a few great plays, including a 2 on 1 break that he stopped when Maryland was looking to break even at the end of the day, and he did a great job on Phipps, only allowing him one goal off a quick-stick on a fastbreak. Also Brancacio looked great, He had two finishes on the doorstep but his second goal was a really nice rip from just inside the restraining line. Brian Phipps also looked good and gold, making some good saves, and most of the shots he let in were quality. As for Miles Kass, he looked excellent i dont get why so many people hate on him, he was absolutely on fire and had a few great momentum stopping saves when Maryland was trying to get their tying goal. Also I would just like to add the refs were horrible, the Hoyas were getting mauled, high hits and slashes (a lot of which were on Brendan Cannon), and unless completely blatant the refs would look the other way, but called a number of fair hits from Gtown as illegal. #41 on Maryland got a goal called back for an illegal stick. the ball wouldn't come out when turned upside down, very reminiscent of the quarterfinals in 05 when Urick caught Mcglone for the same thing after a goal. The refs also got worse as Maryland chances looked bleaker towards the end, it made it clear these refs were wearing red underwear.

Good additions. I'm kind of a total Lacrosse newbie; love watching the game in general, but the details of individual players provided by laxn are the stuff I'm still learning.
