go lance!!!
i would say get a hardtail. thats anything with shocks in front, no shocks in back. i just think it gives you better control over all-terrain.

didnt post this earlier, but my suggestion is find a friend who knows about bikes and go to all the pawn shops in the area and see if you can find anything that way.... also, look at the bulletin boards at your local bike/outdoor stores, people often post bikes that they want to sell there

either the trek or the fuji... the fuji's tend to be bigger frames than treks

Is the Trek 3500 good? Because I don't have a ton of money and I need just a basic bike that I can upgrade later. thanks.

the schwinn mesa is only about $260 and its all upgradable
go to a dealer and try some out. make sure its comfortable, shifts fast, light-weight, good brakes, and then ask the dealer if it is upgradeable. most big company bikes are upgradeable (giant, Trek, cannondale)

Id go for a jamis. their not to well known, but they make some good fast hard tails. Personally I wouldn't go for any of the new gt bikes yet. You can actually find some nice K2 bikes also.

Can someone recommend a ROAD bike for me, something that's completely upgradeable.

they make both road and mtb. If I were to get a road bike I might also go with a Jamis, I dont know if they are upgradable or not but they are not as expensive and are a good first road bike to get. they still have good parts just not as light as your litespeeds, and all carbon bikes. There are better road and mtb than Jamis but not many that are reliable and inexpensive.

Ultimately you want to get a bike that has the perfect geometry for you, even though all the bikes named off by everyone are great, it all depends on your own geometry. You have to find the bike that fits you best and is the most comfortable.

Can someone recommend a ROAD bike for me, something that's completely upgradeable.Nearly every bike is upgradeable. I can't even think of one off the top of my head that isn't. It's like asking if a computer is upgradeable.
