Can anyone give me some insight on what the ideal goalie stick length should be? My son has always cut his stick down to what feels "right" but I am curious what the ideal length actually is? Is there a right answer. He is 5 10".
Thanks!

About 47 inches with the head and shaft combined. About 27 inches just the shaft

This seems extremely short and could prove very unbalanced.

I've heard a good rule of thumb is to have the butt end (while the shaft is attached to the head) come just up to the armpit, but that's just a rule of thumb. A lot is preference and how one likes the stick to feel and throw. One way to combat lack of balance from a shorter stick is to place some weight in the butt end. I use wadded up modeling clay, some use pennies, etc.

There are also other threads on this topic - have a look at what others are doing.
