They have this great chain of stores here in the bay area, with the original name "Cheese Steak Shop". On a scale of 1 to "fun", its a 30. theyre so greasy and tasty, its like a party in my mouth. during the school year, i had an after-school snack there every day two weeks straight.

John's Roast Pork, Snyder Ave in South Philly. There's a long line for a reason.

DALESSANDRO'S STEAKS
Henry Av & Wendover St., Roxborough, Philadelphia

I usually like mine with whiz, but this place only has american or provolone, but they are so good that it makes me not care.
If you ask for hot peppers they have this hot pepper relish they put right on the roll before the steak. Seriously, I might have to go get one for lunch today.

All that being said, I lived down the block from this place for a year, so I'm somewhat bias, but I thought they were good before I moved there. Man I got fat that year...
Check this site out for some good places...

i'm a big fan of abners, too. there also used to be a place called billy-bobs that made great chicken steaks, just the thing at 2:30 am as you were stumbling home from a party. it was across spruce street from the dental school.

if you ask, koch's will make one, but its more baked roast beef than true cheese steak, tasty, but not the same thing

I few of my friends went to Penn (including my girlfriend) and I've stumbled to Billy-Bobs at 2:30 AM a few times myself.

Now, keep in mind, I'm just telling you what I heard; but word around the campfire is the reason that Billy-Bobs closed down was they were dealing crack. You would walk in there and order a sandwich "with the works" (…or some other code word. Like I said, I wasn't really in on it.) and they would put bags of crack in your cheese steak.

Abners is good too, especially after Penn puts up 100 points in the America’s most historic gym. Free cheese steaks for everyone with a ticket stub….

that's pretty funny about billy-bobs, i'm not that suprised to be honest. all that garden state brick face and stucco isnt cheap :)

i was in town about this time last summer for the wedding of one of my penn housemates, a bunch of us went out to U-City for hoagies, every place was closed for summer vacation, and we saw that billy-bobs was closed for good.

a passing of a tradition, much like when Troy's closed. no more eggels.

This Dairy Queen near a scout camp that I go to was dealing crack the same way, and they got busted because an off-duty cop actually ordered whatever the code word was.

This ice cream truck is always outside my school when we get out, and I'm certain that ice cream is not the only thing he sells...
