I recently bruised my MCP Joint http://www.handuniversity.com/topics.asp?Topic_ID=29 basically where your thumb connects to your hand. It is impossible for me to write with my right hand normally. and I now have a pretty week grab with the hand.... It also started hurting when I tried to do push-ups... I do not want to go to the doctor or anything because they're just gonna say no more practicing or games until it gets better.... What do you guys think I should do with it for practices? should I get the trainers to wrap it up or something?

thanks for help

Make me taller, and I'll play for you?

Um...I'd just tell a trainer that its bruised a bit, and see if they'll wrap it, and still let you play.

I know im not a goalie so im not as crazy, but I personally feel you should see the docter or atleast tell the rainer. Better for it to heal now so it doesnt get ruined forever. exspecially if your not on varsity!!

Yeah stone, the best idea ever, you will get tall one day just wait... When I went to get my physical a couple months ago the physician said I should grow up to 6 feet + by next year.. you have a long way to go :wow:

O that sucks then I dont know its a question that you just have sort out your priorities of what means the most to you. If your trying to look good to coach and dont want to look bad or whatever in front of your friends just wrap it up. If you care about your future of accidently screwing it up and needing surgery then go to see the docter.

like the same thing happend to my thumb weeks back and it healed up until it got hit again... I actually did tell my coach my thumb was swollen at the beginning of the season and he said what he used to do was like wrap a sponge around it....

I would ignore it, but i ignore everything. There is currently some unknown bump (cartilage, maybe bone) sticking out of my left wrist. I can't bend it, can barely put weight on it, but still ignore it. Had it for 2 weeks now, starting to consider getting it looked at... Getting annoying. But yeah, just try taping it for the first few weeks, if it doesn't heal up get it looked at.

If i were you dont go to your trainer, but a doctor. The Trainers keep you out longer than neccesary. A doctor will be more willing to sign a release form than any trainer.

I broke my thumb in summer league and just sat out a week. For the next month or so i wrapped it for some extra protection. Eventually, i just felt like i didnt need to wrap it anymore and i stopped. If you feel like you should just sit out a week and it should feel better. It will suck for a while but at least you dont have a broken foot like me and have to sit.

You could just go to the doctor and say, "look I'm going to keep playing, but is there anything I can do to make my thumb not feel any worse?" I know my doctor would tell me some advice.

If not that, talk to a trainer. Wrapping it may help it, or even wearing a brace when not at practice may help it feel better.

Dont be stupid. You can play through hurt but not injury. Sit it out for a little while. Let it heal, see a doctor. Don't be an idiot. It is better you sit out 2 weeks and play in the future, than hurt it worse, and never play again. If you want to play in college, i would let it heal and then be in tip top shape come later.

It is all just my opinion. Do what you want.

this happened to me last year.
i went to the doctors they gave me a metal splint i could still fit my hand inside my glove and play.

they sell them at CVS or any other small store so if you dont go to the doctors pick one up to use just while you play.

im considering to actually go by two of them instead of getting new goalie gloves wear those under gloves. jk

If your season hasnt officially started with games and stuff i would sit out a practice or two and keep some ice on it. wear a splint under a glove but make sure you wrap it cus i did that last year and only taped it like twice, and it got caught on my glove and tore my glove......also, take 3 motrin like 20 minutes before your games, that will take care of any pain you have. i wouldnt reccomend going to a doctor unless it gets worse

Take it easy for awhile,a week or so, its still preseason right? Your only going to make it worse by ignoring it.

AWWWWWW. thats nasty. i think you guys should definetely consider not playing till its better and deal with it. i mean, im all for the all pain - no game theory but imagine what can happen if you keep playing. you might end up injuring your thumbs permanently...or worse, like not having a thumb anymore because it dislocates and might be irreparable.

tape it up. I assume you have goalie gloves right? if it gets worse see a doctor

Go to a sports doctor. A regular doctor will almost always tell you not to play, but sports doctors are much more about getting you back on the field the fastest without permanently injuring you.

Why are so many people saying ignore it? If you don't have any idea what you're talking about, please don't offer medical advice.

It has been noted many times, by many knowledgable members that rather than asking a bunch of preteens/teenagers what to do, go see a trained professional.

hey my roommate who was a goalie hurt his thumb and went to the trainer. the trainer recommended he see a doctor but they gave him this cast like thing that covered the joint. he was able to play the rest of the season though...
