Well today if you were in the face off classic, you might have seen that amazing "goal" in the last second of the over time.. it was not counted because the refs said the buzzer went off before. What does everyone think about this? Goal or no goal?

It was a tough call but they ended up winning anyway.

it was clearly no goal, and i may have had a better vantage point than the ref did.

first, according to the rules, the shot must break the plane of the goal BEFORE time expires. its not like basketball where it just has to leave your hands before time expires.

I was on the field taking photos today down at that end during the second OT, i was focused on the goalie, and had the hopkins student section behind me chanting the time as it clicked off the game clock. i dont think he even got the shot off before time expired, let alone the ball going in. i'm 100% positive it was a good call.

this is a really crappy photo, but its of the shot. boo bad there isnt a clock in the frame

for the life of me i dont know why he hung onto it for so long. he could have shot earlier.

I was at the local sports bar with my team watchin the game.....It was very close, but I agreed with the refs call....it seemed that wen the ball crossed the plane of the goal when the clock read 0:00...no goal...

I didn't know about that rule, guess it makes sense now why they called it like they did. However, he most definitely got the shot off before the buzzer. On the big screen they showed the time along with a clip of the shot, and he shot well before 0.0. If it was a no-goal, it was late by only a couple tenths of a second.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jake Byrne shoot it right away as soon as he was dished it?

he hopkins student section behind me chanting the time as it clicked off the game clock.

The only problem with the chanting was that they were at least two seconds off. They hit 0 before the guy who shot it even got the ball.

i was there, and im pretty sure it was too late. He should have been given the ball a little earlier, the player who gave him the ball spent a long time dodging around.

I was there and if you watch the replay they showed it with the clock. You can see the goalie attempting to make a save at :01 then right after it turns 0. I say goal.

I'd say no goal. If the shots in mid-air as the game is ending, and the horn goes off, that's a huge distraction to the goalie. Basketball's fine because once it's in the air, nobody can do anything about it.

I was thre and I would say no goal. the time was definatley out before the ball was in the goal, but it didnt matter seeing as how they won anyway.

I was there and I had a good view of the clock and the guy making the pass. He made the pass with one second on the clock. There is no way the shooter caught the ball and shot in time to get the goal. Spenny is correct about the ball having to break the plane before time expires. Good Call, no goal

I definitely agree that there was no goal. I remember vividly seeing him catch the ball, wind up, having the buzzer go off, then shooting and scoring. The refs did a good job of making the call of no goal right away afterwards.

Well then you remembered incorrectly. On ESPN they slomotion replayed the goal with a clock on the screen. The ball pretty much touches the net right when the clock turns from 00:01 to 00:00.
