Why so little coverage of the women's game in the magazine? :banghead: I will give you one more month to improve. No more coverage- no more subscription. I would encourage everyone to cancel the magazine if this does not improve immediately.

Why was this moved and to where?

It was moved to the Magazine Forum (there's one specifically about the IL magazine) by Lax101. Please PM him if you have any questions.

I'm writing a paper about this in my college course. WRITE to IL and tell them why you canceled your subscription. If they know people want to read articles about the women's game they will write them.
http://www.insidelacrosse.com/page.cfm?PageRID=34
I plan to contact them and ask them why they choose not to report on the women's game.

greenlaxer,

I moved this thread to the Magazine Forum because these kinds of posts are exactly what the Magazine Forum was made for-feedback, requests, and discussion about the magazine itself. I respect your complaint about the magazine, and as a wlax coach on the side of playing men's lacrosse, I wholeheartedly agree. In general, administrators involved with IL will tend to check this section more than others.

Well, I'm just guessing here but for the most part I think most subscribers are guys. So thats probably why there is more coverage of the mens game..

yeah its 95-5 guys to girls because the subscriptions are 95-5. Also if you look at the ads how many are gear towards women? Gotta go where the money is. No offence but I don't want to read about womens and I don't want to read about box. Start another magazine if you think there is a market.

so it shouldn't be called Inside Lacrosse then... it should be called Inside Men's Lacrosse.. eh?

the only way we would ever know about women's lax and box and all that is if it were in print somewhere, or we were knee deep in it.. ...

Didn't IL do a survey and find out most of their subscribers were males? Maybe that's caused by their lack of women's lacrosse coverage though.

Well that majority of people who subscribe are boys players.

i believe the magazine is geared towards mens lacrosse, if you want more womens coverage subscribe to the US lacrosse magazine.

I think one of the big concerns here, and at least over on the other boards, is the recent decline in wlax coverage in IL. It isn't non-existant, but compared to last year, there has been a significant drop. I realize IL is a business and wants to get the most for its money (that's probably the biggest issue right now), but I don't really know how they expect more wlax people to subscribe if right now the word on the street is that IL isn't the best magazine out there (wlax wise). Have to look at both sides, IL is a business, but it is disappointing to actually watch the decline of wlax press when the sport is growing rampently accross the nation. Just keep on promoting the game girls, one step at a time...

I think that becomes a chicken or the egg type question. Either way, IL can solve it by doing more women's coverage, unless of course they're ok with not having any female readership. But I agree that women's lacrosse should be included, even if I won't be reading much it.

they don't make their money from subscriptions they make them from the advertisments. The market for women's althetics is no where as big as it is for men so advertisers aren't as willing to spend the money on a womens magazine. Who buys more Under Armour? Brine? Warrior? Debeer might be the only company that makes more off of its womens sales than men.

I'm a guy, I don't like reading about womens stuff, box is alright, but no more coverage than there already is is neccessary for me, and I love college lax, so for me, IL is perfect. I'd be happy if the quit covering womens lax all together.

^^ what an idiot. that won't likely happen because a magazine in general tries not to lose customers, ever. so even if they wouldn't be losing a majority, it still is a loss for the magazine.

^^ not an idiot. I don't see them cutting girls lax coverage completely but I bet this is a trend that they continue to take. And I'd be happy if they cut it to. Sucks for you but I don't want to pay for a magazine thats 1/3 stuff I don't care about. Thats like subscribing to ESPN because you are a soccer fan. Maybe its time for some one to make a womens magazine.

nice analogy with ESPN....not...I believe the magazine is called Inside Lacrosse...that pretty much narrows things to a specific sport....in the past they had decent coverage even though it was a fraction of the content and I was fine with that...it's just that this year there is a noticeable reduction...so I exercised my right not to renew....and by the way I read some of the guy's articles too....for now the US Lacrosse magazine is fantastic and I commend them for the amount wlax content...and I really wonder how many subscriptions IL lost, just think if it was a 1000...multiply that by $39, it does add up...and contrary to belief we spend money on equipment too...

It's a lacrosse mag. It should encapsulate all forms of lacrosse (men's, women's, and box). I think the ladies should get more respect and more space in IL. If you have a problem with that, don't read the women's articles, I'm sure the ladies don't page through and read EVERY story about men's lax, and I don't think that all guys do that either. Should they make a magazine that specifically fits YOU, or should they make one that brings the largest fan base? There may not be enough of a market to split w-lax off into their own magazine, which is why a smart magazine would pick it up and make it a solid part of theirs to pick up the readers who are interested in the sport. You should be supporting w-lax, and your sisters in the sport, instead of complaining about the little bit of space they get in a magazine which should have some legit coverage.

Well whats teh most popular form of lacrosse? Men's field lacrosse if I am correct. Only makes sense that a majority of the magazine covers Men's field lacrosse. Everytime I see an article in it covering women's lacrosse I usually pass right over it.

Kram941, Why do you pass over articles about women? You might learn something. I learn stuff all the time when I read about men.

..its all about finding their target market. If they think that having more womens articals will boost sales then it will reflect in the pages. Lacrosse magazine by US lacrosse is almost opposite. i dont read it becuase i cant relate to it. No offense intended but its just not something im interested in.I like reading about mens lacrosse cuz im a guy.

What is there for me to learn...I mean I know the game of W Lax and it does not intrest me at all...I dont find much excitment in it at all.
