Anyone here warms up by just using a a/m stick instead of the goalie head/shaft.

people say its a good idea, but its really not, if you want to get your step down before a game you dont use a stick and you just use tennis balls......

It's not all about getting your step down, using an a/m stick really forces a goalie to focus on the ball and see it all the way into the stick. With the smaller head, it's even more challenging and is a good way to ensure that you're doing everything right and precise (and it focus more on all of the GK movements). If it wasn't a good idea, I don't think you would see so many elite goalies warming up before games with a/m sticks...

its not a bad idea at all... i always make my goalies practice with a shorty for a while before games, just to get them that much more focused.

Make sure it weighs the same as a goalie stick. I find a regular weight a/m stick is so light that my hands feel super fast. If you make sure it weighs the same as your goalie stick, you wont feel that intial shock when it comes time to pick up your goalie stick.

True, any suggestions as to how to get your head heavier? The shaft is easy enough, pennies or sand, but I can't think of a good was to get the head heavier, so your stick isn't rediculously off balance.

wrap tape around the sidewalls of the head.
i did that last year to even it out a bit.
it does work.

I'm not sure if its that great of a thing to do before a game. It seems like it would make sense to get as familiar with your game stick as much as possible. I’m thinking that if you use a short stick, your passing and stick handling is gonna be alot different. It definitely sounds like a good idea to practice with a short stick for certain drills during your practices though. I think I'll try that sometime soon.

to make the head heavier just use an object that is topheavy...such as a metal shovel. forces you to control the head of the stick while making the save.
