do you think LA is using performance enhancing drugs?
Absolutely not. End of story.

I was just watching an interview with him and he made a good point. I dont remember the guys name but some guy holds the record for the fastest time trial and this was back in 89. If LA is doping then why hasnt he beat this guy that raced way back then? One would think if he was doping he blow the record out the water. Hes just good. End of story

Good insight. See, thats why its absurd to think he's doping.

I know this is a lot to ask of the teenage ADDH crowd, but before adding another ignorant post full of swiss cheese logic, I suggest going over pages 3-5 of "Tour de France" thread (http://www.lacrosseforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6890&perpage=15&pagenumber=3). <--- I've courteously included the thread link so you don't have to search for it.
Making comparisons to past time trials makes little sense b/c TT stages differ in length, course route, weather & road conditions.
Joe ran a 4 min mile under sunny spring weather. Bill ran 2 miles in 9 min in the rain. Therefore, Bill can't possibly be doping b/c Joe had a higher average speed??? NO :dummy
This isn't to accuse LA of doping, just that your argument holds no water.

also hes been tested more than any athlete uhhh......ever and hasn't once tested positive while jan ulrich HAS tested positve and no one in france gives a crap about that cause he came in second. the french hate american champions
And we hate the French! YESSSSSSSSS! Yeah, Lance, he goes out and wins with a better tour than last year, and if he was on them last year, than he would be off them this year, and somehow, he's faster? What? Nope, sorry, try again. Lance plays fair and square.

no he doesnt.
I heard an interesting report somewhere that said when he went through Chemo, the large, bulky muscles in his legs were worn down. Those muscles are the kind sprinters rely on, but are bad for climbing mountains due to their own weight and just their construction. What was left after Chemo were the lean, strong muscles most beneficial to climbers. Lance wins Tours in the mountains, because he is the best climber, ever. This would make sense. Before Chemo he never won a Tour obviously, but he was in them, and was more of a sprinter, I believe. Since his Chemo, he hasn't lost a Tour. So that, in addition to training harder than any other rider, makes him head and above anyone else. I really don't think he takes steroids; it would be an enormous disappointment if somehow we found out he did.

Why the hell would he take steriods? That's like one of the worst possible things a biker can do.

IMO, i dont think he did... i mean the guy is a natural athlete, he qualified for the olympic training team as a senior in high school for christ sakes
bikers dont use steriods per say, they use substances that raise their red blood cell count

Those drugs can pretty much kill you, and with what Lance went through, I doubt he'll deliberately flirt with death.

Anyways, does anyone notice that bikers only come out when the Tour de France is in session?

I really think Lance has been through way too much in his life to put stuff like that in him that has the possibility to be harmful in anyway. But, I do think that some how maybe the chemo did something to his muscles making them produce less lactic acid so he is able to ride longer without feeling any burn. And this is a credible topic considering he just won his 7th tour de france and is retiring.

if you look at him he's not a very big guy, muscular wise, he's quite lean. sidenote: i also heard when he 1st got cancer he didn't think much of it because that is a common pain for cyclists, i woudn't be able to bear that kinda pain for that amount of time

WELL I HEARD Lance Armstrong was born with an oversized heart which is why hes so good and doesnt get tired
laxrat22
07-26-2005, 03:35 AM
ya i was just watching a show about him and they were comparing his heart to a normal heart, it pumps 9 gallons of blood per minute and the average pumps 5 gallons per minute, and it beats like 200 times per minute as opposed to somewhere around 100, and its like a 1/3 bigger than normal

I'm just saying it's a pointless topic. Why would the founder of a Cancer Research facility be using steroids? Besides, if he was, the government would know about it. This topic didn't have to be brought back up.

ben has part of it right.
before chemo lance was built like a triathlete, which is what he was. his upper body was too big to be a super elite TDF cyclist. after chemo, he had the opportunity to rebuild his body into the TDF machine that it is today. that's not something many (i cant think of any others) elite athletes get to do. he also chose his chemo drugs to be drugs that would affect his VO2/Max the least (essentially that's the amount of oxygen your lungs can get in and metobolize at any one time) (of which his score BEFORE chemo was one of hte best ever recorded)
is he doping? its possible but highly unlikely.
he takes more tests for steroids than we take dumps. he's had the opportunity to rebuild his body for this one event.
lastly hes a cancer survivor, he wasnt supposed to survive actually, as a fellow cancer survivor, i can tell you, you are a lot less likely to do stuff that could put you back into chemo (doing steroids) than someone who hasnt faced their own mortality like he has.

I thought, because of his previous cancers he had to take steroids to recover and stay healthy enough to be able to compete.
lyonslax98
07-27-2005, 07:08 PM
^^^^^ actually this is true in a way. he took meds that were standard for people recovering from cancer but often used to cheat in cycling. dont know any more than that though.

thats a good point but did he only take enough meds to make a recovery or keep going and use them as roids?

Not to mention that he and his team are the R&D team for Trek...meaning he gets the best lightest, newest things first.
PLUS he has a team...he can draft behind them and get aid that some others don't have access to.
Still doesn't take away from the fact that he is a freakishly great athelete.

his resting heart rate is abotu 32 beats per minute. that's incredible. also, he was born with a stronger and bigger heart, and the chemo treatments got rid of all the muscles he didnt need for bikinig, therefore losing him the pounds that he didnt need(he used to have a lot of upper body muscles because of swimming)

My Position:
Well it is not as though he has anything to lose. I mean, come on, he has already had cancer and now has 7 Tour de France titles.
I simply state that he could have used steroids and not worried about their effects because he has pretty much nothing to lose after defeating cancer.
Your position:
I'm just saying it's a pointless topic. Why would the founder of a Cancer Research facility be using steroids? Besides, if he was, the government would know about it. This topic didn't have to be brought back up.
You regard this thread has no purpose although its topic has been spread across the news for the past few, mainly seven years. You also imply that because Lance Armstrong founded the LAF, he wouldn't bother using steroids. You go on to claim that the government would know about it.
The many holes in your argument are as follows:
1. The obvious is that this thread has merit no matter what you say.
2. You argue that people who do good are completely good and wouldn't use something as "bad" as steriods no mater what the circumstances. You are wrong off the bat because Lance Armstrong has used steriods to combat his cancer and this has been discussed thoroughly in the previous posts.
3. What government would know about Lance Armstrong using steroids? Maybe the Spanish Government. No, maybe the Russians! Ohh yeah, I have heard that the Russians have been looking to recruit Lance for an evil plot to rid the world of snow... If you are speaking of the U.S. Government, what kind of say does it possess over Lance Armstrong. As far as I am concerned Lance Armstrong is the greatest thing to happen to the U.S. Government since President Clinton.
It's stronger than your position.
HAHA! Your argument has larger holes than the Titanic.
It doesn't seem as if anyone except you dislikes that this thread was reincarnated. Make like a tree and leaf off. :bye:
