I'm going, should be a good game. If SU plays like they're playing right now, there is no doubt in my mind they will win.
I'm saying Syracuse 10 Hopkins 8.

I think it should be okay to start a thread about a game a week early, if said game falls on a holliday. but back on topic. I'm hoping Syracuse can play like they did the 10th and keep their offense on key. I really want Nims to play like he did in the pre-season. I think it'll be close, but I think SU'll be able to pull this one off(random guess...11-8 SU)

im thinking SU 14-6. as long as coluccini comes in with a good game. he's quite inconsistent... but Syracuse all the way

Hopkins can't score on anybody and Syracuse is figuring out how to play D. I could see SU control this game from start to finish with a 10 - 5 win. Even if SU's D is average, Hopkins still can't figure out how to put points on the board.

o no,,,, hopkins may have a low shot-to goal percentage but look at the leadingscorers, 1st and 2nd are freshmens,,, Steven Boyle and MikeKimmel
the problem is defense, hopkins had 3 1-point-difference games out of 4

Yet another reason to look at the fact that Hopkins won't win....thier leading scorers are freshmen. They have almost no big game experience with the exception of the Princeton game. Hopkins is running into a Syracuse team that's found their offensive rhythm. It shouldn't even be a close game.
Syracuse is gonna be hard to stop if they keep up the level of play they showed against my Hoyas. But I doubt know if they can, I'm gonna pick Hop on this with hmmmm 13-11

From hopkinssports.com
Setting the Scene: Johns Hopkins and Syracuse meet for the 44th time in a series that dates to a 4-4 tie in 1921.
Looking Back: Johns Hopkins won its third straight game last Saturday with a 9-8 victory against Hofstra. Syracuse evened its record at 2-2 with a thorough 14-9 win at previously unbeaten Georgetown.
Poll Position: Johns Hopkins is ranked third in this week's USILA Coaches Poll and third in this week's Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. The Johns Hopkins Sports Information Office uses the USILA Poll to reflect JHU's official ranking at the time of a game. Syracuse is ranked eighth in the USILA Poll and seventh in the media poll.
These are the Facts: Johns Hopkins enters the game against Syracuse with an all-time record of 861-269-15 (.759). The Blue Jays own eight NCAA Championships, 29 USILA titles and six ILA titles for a total of 43 national championships.
A First Time For Everything: For the first time this season Johns Hopkins will face a team that is not coached by someone who either played with or coached Blue Jay head coach Dave Pietramala. Pietramala coached against former teammates when the Blue Jays faced Albany (Scott Marr) and Hofstra (Seth Tierney) and the student swept the teachers as Hopkins defeated UMBC (coached by Don Zimmerman ... head coach at JHU during Pietramala's playing career) and Princeton (coached by Bill Tierney ... assistant coach at JHU during Pietramala's first two years at Hopkins).
Pietramala Notches Victory #75 at Hopkins, Closes on 100: Johns Hopkins head coach Dave Pietramala earned his 75th career victory at Johns Hopkins with last Saturday's 9-8 win over Hofstra. Pietramala, who had moved into fourth place on JHU's career victories list with the win over UMBC on March 6, now needs just three wins to move into third place. He now sports a 75-16 record at JHU.
In addition to moving up on Hopkins' career coaching victories list, Pietramala also inched closer to career victory number 100. He currently boasts an overall coaching record of 98-33, including the 75-16 record at JHU and a 23-17 mark in three seasons at Cornell.
Pietramala Stands Alone: Johns Hopkins head coach Dave Pietramala is the only person in lacrosse history who has won an NCAA Division I Championship as a player (1987) and a head coach (2005). He is also the only person who has been named the national player of the year and the national coach of the year.
Streaking: Johns Hopkins is 59-8 in its last 67 regular season games dating back to the end of the 2001 season and 67-12 overall since the start of the 2002 season.
One-Goal Turnarounds: The 9-8 victory against Hofstra improved Hopkins' recent run of success in one-goal games as JHU is 26-6 in one-goal games under head coach Dave Pietramala. The Blue Jays have won 13 of their last 15 and 17 of their last 20 one-goal games. In its previous 32 one-goal games (covering a span from an 11-10 win over Virginia in 1988 through the 2000 season), Hopkins was 18-14.
More One-Goal Notes: The Blue Jays have come from behind to win 11 times during their last 13 one-goal wins. In eight of those 11 come-from-behind one-goal wins the Blue Jays have come back from a deficit of two goals or more. The latest of these come-from behind wins was the 7-6 double-overtime victory against Princeton as the Blue Jays erased deficits of 2-0, 3-1, 4-3 and 5-4 before prevailing.
Overtime Notes: The 7-6 double-overtime victory against Princeton improved the Blue Jays' record to 11-2 in overtime under head coach Dave Pietramala. The Blue Jays have currently won seven straight overtime games. Players on the 2007 team who have scored game-winning goals in overtime:
• Junior Kevin Huntley punched home the game-winner in the second OT against Duke in 2005.
• Sophomore Brian Christopher scored 1:22 into OT against Loyola on May 6, 2006.
• Junior Paul Rabil fired home the game-winner 56 seconds into the 2nd OT against Princeton on March 3.
Amazing, But True: Johns Hopkins dropped its final game of the 2006 season against Syracuse in the NCAA Quarterfinals (13-12) and the 2007 season-opener against Albany (8-7). This marked the first time Johns Hopkins has lost back-to-back games under head coach Dave Pietramala. However, the win over Princeton extended JHU's streak of not losing back-to-back games in the same season under Pietramala. The last time JHU lost back-to-back games in the same season was early in the 2000 season (Syracuse and Virginia) under John Haus.
Marching Orders: Johns Hopkins is 27-8 under head coach Dave Pietramala in games played in the month of March.
What's Back: The Blue Jays were one of the youngest teams in the nation last season, but still fought their way to within one goal of reaching the final four. The Blue Jays return players who accounted for 125 of their 138 (90.6%) goals last season and 55 of 69 (79.7%) assists they accumulated a year ago.
More Back: While injuries toyed with the depth chart last season, a quick look reveals more about what is back this season. Of the top 17 players who regularly appeared on the depth chart last season, six were freshmen, three were sophomores and five were juniors. Only three of the 17 graduated. Returning players combined for 112 starts last season.
Class Act: Despite returning a majority of its scoring from last season, the Blue Jays are still getting a significant amount of production from players who have at least one year of eligibility remaining after this season. Below is a breakdown of Hopkins' scoring by class through four games:
Class (Goals-Assists/Points) Seniors (7-5/12)
Juniors (14-6/20)
Sophomores (4-2/6)
Freshmen (13-9/22)
Class Notes of Interest:
• Freshmen Steven Boyle and Michael Kimmel have combined for at least four points in all four games thus far and rank as JHU's top two scorers.
• Only two seniors have accumulated points through four games as Jake Byrne (5g, 4a) and Drew Dabrowski (2g, 1a) account for all 12 points the senior class has combined for.
• Juniors ranks fourth through seventh on the team in scoring with Kevin Huntley (4g, 2a), Paul Rabil (4g, 1a), Stephen Peyser (2g, 2a) and Michael Doneger (3g) combining for 13 goals and five assists.
• 31 of JHU's 38 goals and 17 of 22 assists have been accumulated by players who will return in 2008.
Extra-Man Offense Bounces Back: After going 0-for-2 with the extra man against Albany, Johns Hopkins bounced back and converted 2-of-4 in the win over Princeton and 2-of-6 in the win over UMBC before converting on its only chance against Hofstra. The Blue Jays got extra-man goals from juniors Kevin Huntley and Michael Doneger (both goals were assisted by freshman Michael Kimmel) in the win over Princeton, while Huntley and Kimmel scored with the extra man against the Retrievers (both goals assisted by Jake Byrne). Doneger punched home the lone extra-man goal against Hofstra off an assist from Kimmel.
Johns Hopkins has finished in the top 10 in the nation in extra-man offense four times in the last five years (2002-T4th, 2003-1st, 2004-5th, 2006-9th).
It's Been a While: Johns Hopkins has allowed just 28 goals through four games despite a starting defense that includes one player returning from a torn ACL in the fall (Eric Zerrlaut) and two players (Ben O'Neill and Michael Evans) with a combined total of zero starts between them entering the season. Still, the Blue Jays have held each of their four opponents to eight goals or less. This is the first time since 1985 that Hopkins has held its first four opponents to eight goals or less. In addition, the 28 goals allowed is the fewest over a four-game span since Hopkins allowed just 24 in a four-game run late in the 2005 season.
35 in a Row: Last year's NCAA Tournament bid was the 35th straight for Johns Hopkins, which missed the inaugural NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament in 1971, but has qualified for every one since. This is the longest streak of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament in any Division I Team sport.
10 in a Row: The Blue Jays drew the number four seed in last year's NCAA Tournament. This marked the 10th consecutive year Johns Hopkins has been seeded in the top four in the tournament. By comparison, only two other schools (Syracuse & Georgetown) have even qualified for the tournament in each of the last 10 years.
One of Two: Junior midfielder Paul Rabil is one of just two Division I men's lacrosse players returning this season who earned First Team STX/USILA All-America honors (he joins Princeton goalie Alex Hewitt). Rabil became the first Johns Hopkins sophomore since A.J. Haugen in 1998 to earn First Team All-America when he took top honors a year ago. He led the Blue Jays in scoring last season with 25 goals and 13 assists for 38 points

I think its time to fire desko... poorly coached especially the d and its been that way for the past couple of years... obviously talent on the team, but hop could of won by 20 if they wanted... poor d, o, goalie, riding, clearing... petramala embarrasses su in the dome... no way with the talent they have they should be down by 10 to anyteam.. it has to be the coach... anybody agree?

yes he did but he was handed gold in '99.... i dont know if you have seen a game this year but syracuse doesnt seem like they have a clear or ride play.. everyone walks and its half assed... the defense has not been good since 03... no mp to bail um out anymore... and beacuse of that it leaves an average at best goalie eposed... the coaching has done nothing to change it.

actually i thought hopkins D was so-so. schwartzman was fantastic, but the rest of the d was worrysome. regular season good, but not post season good.
the hopkins D looked better than they played because of schwartzmans excellent outlet passes. its hard to look too bad on D when your O has the ball for 85% of the game, and his outlet passes were giving the hopkins middies great opportunities all day long
