That's crazy... I just checked Duke's website.

SO DUKE LOST?! What a perfect end to a perfect lacrosse weekend. Duke, Georgetown, and Princeton lose... all three teams ranked above UVA (who won). Let's go Wahoos!

The game was an amazing effort on Loyola's part.

Duke couldn't clear for their life and for some reason kept slipping on the grass. Crotty had a breakout game and tallied 3 unassisted goals. Good sign for Duke's midfield. O'Hara was a groundball machine and also managed to score a fastbreak goal from the faceoff wing. Danowski looked frustrated tonight. He did look better in the second half and tried really hard to pull off that last minute game tying goal but came up short.

Loyola came to the game ready to play. From what the announcers said they were a lot more fired up than the Duke team. The goalie ,Peatey, played an outstanding game. Stuffed a couple of people right on the crease including Danowski and Greeer.

I was rooting for Duke the whole time but in the end Loyola just wanted it more. Hopefully Coach Danowski can fix the clearing problem and get the team back on track.

Alex Peatey played amazing. everytime it seemed duke had an open shot peaty made it look easy. The game was amazing but now i want to kill someone becuase duke lost. Dawnoski did not do any actual dodging near the middle or the loyola defender on him made him not a factor. Duke did not play well if you ask me. they had some moments but overall it was unfinished shots. Loyola seemed to want it so much too. DUKE WILL BOUNCE BACK! (hopefully)

Dont forget about Bauers and Spack, they're good but Duke is better, they should have won this game

Valaxman17

bauers and spack are great but when they add koppens back in it makes the lattack and midfield better they were there last year and by great year i'm saying that i predict that they will be the cinderella story of this years tourny

duke blew that game. instead of stalling, then loosing then ball, they should have scored when the goalie was out of the cage for 3 minutes

haha, the lax.com article calls the loyola squad the cardiac kids for their late-game heroics.

the lax.com article doesnt do the game any justice as it was a pretty boring account of a really exciting game. As others have mentioned the Loyola goalie made some huge saves in the first half and that combined with Duke getting worked on face offs led to the 5-1 half time score. Danowski kept trying to just take little/no angle shot coming from behind after he scored that way for Dukes first goal but had no success with that move after that. I thought it was a dumb move for Danowski to pass to Greer while he was inside the box at the end of the game, it wasnt the best pass and Greer had to extend close to the line and Loyolas goalie was able to push him out.
No one has mentioned Rabidus circus goal to close out the first half. He caught a somewhat forced feed with his back to the goal and whipped it underhand (still not facing the goal) top corner....was pretty sick

What a great job the Loyola goalie (Peatey) did! He looked awesome in goal. This game just shows that if you shut down Duke's vaunted attack, the rest of the team can't pick up the slack. I also noticed that Duke has zero depth and that Quanizini (sp?) is way overrated. I wonder if he would have set the all time hs scoring mark in NY? Prolly not.......

i have been to all first fours and that game was definatly the best. it was a thriller to the end. people were going nuts.

danowski had it at the end and came up short.

besides the clearing problem duke, couldnt even catch a pass. it killed every oppurtunity

#1 spot seems to be cursed, everyone who gets ranked #1 loses their next game

Fun game to watch. Loyola hasn't been in the Tournament in 5 years, so maybe they can make a push. They had some great years under Dave Cottle, especially that one year where they were undefeated and #1 going into the tournament.

manup, which ncal team were you? St. I? for the most part, the ncal teams ruled the socals. torrey pines did win over San Ramon, but didn't look that impressive. at least the socal youth did did well.

as for the duke game, it was hard not to root for loyola. i went in ready to root for duke. with all the great players we've read and heard about, we couldn't wait to see "real" lacrosse, the way the big boys play. and ..., Loyola showed us.

they played about a smart a game as is possible. they possessed (i'm sure that can't be spelled that way but it'll do) the ball most of the 2nd and 3rd periods. they were demons at the face off. Duke was a goner until they started to get a few faceoffs in the 4th and finally started converting.

they reallly had way to many stupid throw aways and loss of possesions for a high ranked D1 team, much less a #1. the big d-pole for duke had a nightmare game. and the guy who should ahve had nightmares, the guy who covered danowski all night, that guy did a great job. danowski tried shooting every time he had the ball for a while, but he'd either get stuffed by the goalie or got positioned by the d-pole. the pole really had a great defensive game. as for greer. the guy was lost. never did a thing. my sone is aleft handed attackman and i told him to really watch how greer moved around the cage. bad advice. he hardly ever cut. he just kind of stood around waiting for a unsettled situation, which loyola almost never game them.

the greyhounds just kept runn9ing a bunch of one on one iso's and over time kept getting shots in.

kudos to duke for grinding out the come back and eventually getting the lead. but come on, giving up two goals in the last minute and a half to lose? didn't they watch the virginia game?

greyhounds have some converts in SD

Alas, they are #2 and Cornell is #1...guess whos gonna lose next week?

The way things have been going for the #1 spot, UVA will be back on top where they belong by next week. :bartmoon:

petey was amazing...
some of the calls blew my mind...
dukes D looked good but when you are on defense most of the game you get tired...those penalties takes alot out of you...
on loyolas defense they did play hard and duke did have many unforced errors...loyola also was hungrier on FO and GBs...

overall with better refs and a dry field i think duke would have pulled out a W even WITH their unforced errors and lazy GB/FO work

i thought most of the missed calls actually helped out Duke. The refs blew a pretty obvious offsides really late in the game that would have put Loyola man up when they were down by one, but they ended up not needing it...
I agree about the field, although it seemed only Duke was affected by it.

agreed on the offsides call...but it seemed most of the game even the little calls of looseball pushes, and minor calls/no calls went loyolas way...im not saying it was horribly one sided...but these seemingly insignificant ones add up to boiling frustration sometimes...

i also agree that duke was feeling the wet field more...why i dont know...but they were not handeling the footing too well
