if you want drills check out the stickies.

as for comming out, i come out when needed, if a ground ball is within 10 yard i'll come out, clears i'm out of the cage, but other than that, leaving the net isn't the smartest idea.

I leave the net quite a bit, I'm a rather aggressive goalie. Not everyone likes my style, because sometimes I screw up, but that's just the nature of the way I play. I've talked to top DI goalies who are agressive as well, so I plan on sticking to it for the time being.

As for when you should come out, there is no defnitive time when it's okay to come out. The best and probably only way you're ever going to learn is through experience in games and practices. It's really all about where the ball is, where the opposing team is, what their speed is like, what your speed is like and what is happening in the game at that point (are you down, is it close etc). You have to calculate all of that in a split-second and just go if you're going to go. You can't hesitate, you either bust it or your don't because if you get caught inbetween, you're not going to have a chance.

It depends really for me. I'm really agressive in indoor because it's such a small field, and I can shoot with my goalie stick. When it comes to field, I only come out of the crease on GB's that are within 5 yards of the crease, as well as coming out on clears. It's a lot easier getting the breakout outlets to the longpoles if you take a couple steps out of the crease.

well...i come out alot...i come out because it makes it easy to stuff people, and most kids arent very expeirenced so you can come out and play the body, just keep your stick on theirs

I don't think he's talking about stepping up in the crease for a stuff. He's talking more about coming out of the crease for a ground ball or interception, that kind of thing where you leave the crease to gain posession of the ball.

if we are up by two or three i come out fairly often. my goal this season is to score at least once. i only come out of goals if the team we are playing isnt that good, or if they are pretty slow. if they are fast, then i try not to come out because it is too risky

if theres an open guy right at the creece and i see that the middie or attack is passing to them ill lay them out right as they get the ball and make them eat the dirt on the ground. it happens about 2-3 times a game and it prevents players from taking too close of shots later in the game :)

ill try to get my stick in front of a pass near the cage/ crease and ill also come out and lay out an offensive player who has the ball and hes on the crease or he beat the d and hes about 5-7 yds off the crease, if you do come out you need to be able to get back fast and if u come out to stuff you need to match your stick w/ theirs

I'm sure I've said this about 50 times over, but I am an extremely aggressive goalie. I get a lot of ground balls and pick off a lot of passes. Being aggressive on clears can help put another man on the field to compete against a great ride from the other team.

Since I can play all field positions well, I use my stick skills and dodging skills to help the team. Some people think it's cocky of me to cross the midfield line 12 times a game, but when I get assists and set up my attackmen off the crease for easy goals, it can really demoralize the other team, and it can create a TON of momentum for your team.

It also is great to get in the heads of your opponents and intimidate them, since so many riders throw "home-run checks" when they see the goalie out of the crease, let alone on the other restraining line. ESPECIALLY after making a great save. Not only is it frustrating to have a goalie rob you of a goal, but it is even worse when he marches down the field with the ball and sets up a goal himself, and you can't catch him or stop him.

Hey--the game is all about confidence, and when opponents see that I am absolutely fearless and relentless when I am carrying the ball on offense, that gives them another thing they have to worry about. They keep thinking, "He'll pass it off...He'll get scared, or timid"...But I just keep carrying it further, and further--but I should really shoot more. I would just rather get the assist off the backside look, and give more confidence to my attackmen--so they can get the next goal, the next goal, and the next goal.

The game is all about confidence and momentum.

And as I have stated in other threads, you REALLY only have to beat 3 or so players before you have the opportunity to get an assist or a goal.

And with a huge goalie pocket (and a little athleticism/stick skills), that is a lot easier to do than it seems...

I leave pretty much alot, i am faster then most guys, so i can scoop it up and with my net i can dodge like crazy and then just lob it to a team mate. But just focus and know your surroundings i got layed out twice this year,

During summer league, I like to come out a lot more, to hit players when the D turns them back on inside rolls, and to get GB's. I also take a few more midfield runs than usual. This has bitten me once or twice, which is why I tend to do it in summer league...

I like to stay back in the net more. If there is a close GB, then I will come out after it. I come out to help support the clear.

The only time when I come out in a game is during clears, or when a GB is only a few feet from the creese. I'm not the fastest, so when I do take it up the field I'm only doing it to draw a D-man towards me so I can dump the pass over his head to my middie, long-pole, or attackman.

I come out a lot. My coach is supportive and acknowledges that sometimes I'll mess up and let in a goal. I go for ground balls, missed shots, interceptions, and when no one is open on the clear I'll look to take it up.
