hi, i'm from miami (fl) and lacrosse (sadly) isn't all too popular here. at my school it's not even considered a sport but it's a club.

i'm a freshman (girl) and i'm in love with the goalie position. i tried it and now i'm rather obsessed.

the goalie now is a senior and i'm the only one crazy enough to want to play goalie so i'm training this season and will be playing all season for the next three years.

i started playing last summer in a league and played in a fall league too (as an attack player). early this season i was a starter in attack until i started training for goalie.

anyway...

my question is, does anyone think that if i work my butt off i'll be able to play goalie in college?

i'm willing to practice as hard as i need to, as long as i need to.

and also, is it true that it's easier to be recruited for colleges as a goalie?
and how can i put myself "out" more so recruiters can see me?

i'm participating in duke goalie school this summer.

honest opinions are appreciated. thanks. :agree:

I think youll be able to. My coach told me that its easier to get on a college team playing goalie than any other position. I think 4 of the last 5 goalies to leave my school made good teams. Im sure ill follow because this is the senior goalie's last year at my school. So next year ill be playing varsity as a sophomore, im stoked.

Hmm, almost a recruiting forum, question, but I'll leave it here for now... Anyways, the questions.

Yes, if you work your butt off you can play in college. To what level is determined by your effort, talent and how much you get your name out there. Even if you don't get DI offers, remember there is still DII, DIII and club. Many, many opportunities exist at the next level.

and also, is it true that it's easier to be recruited for colleges as a goalie?

I personally think that's a myth. The reason I think that is because unlike most positions, schools aren't always recruiting a goalie that year. Teams only need 2-3, so that means they only need to look for a goalie in certain classes. Basically, even if you're really good and want to go to a certain school, they might not even look at you, just because you're the wrong year. I know I experienced that this year. I do think that being a goalie will open up more opportunites scholarship wise though. So, if you can get recruited ( DI or DII), I think you have a better opportunity to get a larger scholarship than a field player. This is because a good goalie changes everything. Coaches know this and will make sure they have a goalie, so they're willing to make sure they get who they want the year they're recruiting.

and how can i put myself "out" more so recruiters can see me?

Check out the Recruiting Forum further up on the main page. Everything in there can apply to you as a goalie, so make sure you read up. The more you know about recruiting, the better chance you have to be recruited.

Also, I don't know what level you're looking to play at in college, but keep in mind many FL schools have already officially announced they will have DI programs by the time you graduate (or should, sometimes they get pushed back). Check out those too if you're interested in stay in the FL area.

It may be tougher in Miami, because its not such a big sport like in Maryland or New York. Just play well, and maybe a school in Florida or somewhere else may recruit you. If you aren't recruited, there's always club teams and such. You could also walk on somewhere.
