This has nothing to do with being an aggressive goalie or not. It all depends on the situation if one of my defenders is open and I have an attack man splitting defense on me and another guy, I'm gonna cut back to X and look for a clear to my D man. If I have no one on me sure I'm gonna run it up. But it all really depends on what's going on and who's covering who. Other than that I am an aggressive goalie.

I agree with Goalie37. It really depends on the situation. Though I try to push the 2-on-1's with middies and d-men on my team where I see them (smart logic, the less time you have the ball, the lower the chances of screwing up). But I also take it over the mid line when nobody jumps me. Sometimes I take my time and just play cat and mouse around the crease a little. I'd consider an aggressive goalie someone who isn't afraid to leave the protection of the crease and tries to start plays on his/her end of the field which hopefully turn into goals on the offensive side like getting ground balls, or staying active in a clear, throwing a check every now and then, etc...

The clears me and my defense have worked out i really have no time to to do either, our clears are a split second outlet thats made right after the save.

Though usually i am an aggressive goalie on the clears, i'll take a quick run to the back of the crease then if i have room ill run it up as far as i can get it before im picked up and forced to toss the ball to the open man.

thats a tough question because there are some that can be good and some that arent. me, i can do the immediate clear much better than waiting, and i can also run it to maybe the restraining line and dodge around and get a pass off. it always depends on the situation, but ill never run straight from the crease. the goal of the running clear is to draw men to you so you can get an open pass.

thats what i try to do usually, it really hasnt become 2nd nature yet, just started playing, its hard to be agressive in sean's(bmxinspired) and my legue(same team) the clears r usually unorganized tho im sure they will become better

I usually like to just chill in the crease until about 3 seconds, then I try to go behind. But this year, my coach says that if someone is on the crease, that I have to go behind, and run it up as far as I can, then making a shorter outlet pass.

as far as clearing goes with agression im more of a go to X guy because thats how our clear works , but lots of times our middies are open so i will swing a quick line pass to them on a break to get the fast break going to give us momentum an a man advantage.

Also im aggressive with the one on goalie when there is an attackman sitting on MY crease which is MY house and my dfence doesnt pick them up i will most likely put my gloves right in their chest while keeping my stick right infront of theirs. they need to know that this is MY house and they arnt allowed. or if an attackman is getting a huge pass from like the goalie and they are just sitting there i will run at them right before they get the pass and snag it or put them on their wallet right when they get it cuz my dfence is kinda lazy with stuff like that.

Has anybody else watched the UVM goalie lately? He's beyond aggressive; out of control really.

Goalies should be able to clear the ball the way John Elway played football. If there's an outlet open, pass it. If not, take it behind the cage to buy yourself time, unless you see a lane and can jump start the transition with your feet. If that still doesn't work then move it upfield on your own until something opens up. If you force a pass then you're saying you don't trust your feet, if you force an upfield sprint and get the ball stripped then you're saying you don't trust your passes or your teammates.

Im kinda in the middle of the two choices, i run to the side and up the right sideline and look for someone to throw to.

i wouldnt call it aggressiveness, i would call it confidence. if a goalie is inexeprienced, and not sure if they can make it up the field or not, then theyre gonna be clear from the crease most of the time, but if you have a confident goalie who knows what he can do , then they will run it when they need to. but when u refer to goalie being aggressive what comes to mind for me is a goalie that will come out of his crease in an attempt to stop the ball, or will come out and try to pick off a pass. and then non aggressve being someone who just sits in the crease. but then again, every goalie has to be aggressive. stepping to the ball is being aggressive. if you dont step, and you wait for the ball come to you your not going to be a good goalie. you have to make things happen.

my team had a play last year where i would basically just bomb it down the sideline to the waiting attack, and then it would basically be a fast break, worked well too. the attack was in the top 10 in scoring in the league. and i ended up with like 10 assists in like 20 games. which is pretty decent for a goalie on our team considering we went 4-16, and most of our middies/attack didnt even have that many assists.

Yes more like if its 1 minute left and your down by 1 and the other team is just playing keep away, double the man at x or if man on crease and he so happens to get the ball *BOOM* he gets knocked down.

On clears if its a lock off to all men during a clear, I just take it across mid field to an attack and boom its fast break.

Sometimes when I'm extremely pissed off at my team for no doing anything right, I run up the field and try to score, but I do that rarely.

im aggressive in the way that if an oposing player gets to close to my crease for compfort ....they are gonna get checked...and not some weak poke....HARD....but as far as clearing goes it depends on my situation ....(if they rush me when i come out of my crease then i stay low as long as i can ........ if they suck and dont even rush me i try and get it high up field as much as i can

I'm quite pissed they locked my aggressive/passive thread when it was on a different topic of being a goalie. Is anyone here aggressive while on defense? Like when an attack man comes around the goal and tries to score. I've seen a lot of D1 goalies let them come around before saving the shot, but me personally, I get in there face and check them.

I will normally save the ball and just take off. I can juke a lot of kids out so my coach always tells me to just take off. Also, because I am a really small goalie, I am very quick and can outrun most kids.

If you have a legitimate concern, why not PM me? I'm sorry that you feel wronged, but it solves more issues when you talk it over rather than simply ignoring it and staying angry.

My point of view is that while this thread was specifically created to talk about clearing, you might as well extend the subject matter being discussed into different areas of goal tending. You above post did this, and is perfectly legitimate.

If you still feel like the topic deserves a whole new thread, PM me with some of you thoughts and I'll reopen your thread.

I normally just stay where i saved, at about 3 seconds i run up then pass 2 a Middy or D, whoever closer

EHSLAX12

i can do both. i can do a brett queener but at the same time i first want to hit the open clear like im supposed to. my coachs tell me when i get to the mid line and i only have 3 seconds left, look for pass and if its not there, run it to the attackman. normally i wont hit the aggressive passes to the cutting man unless hes dead open. i have to build confidence in that. i watched a video of one of my games and saw that i had several opportunities like that but didnt take them and took the safety option to the dpole. i think its better to be a passive goalie because if you dont have the greatest stick work or a good amount of speed and endurance you will be in a lot of trouble.

I cross the midfield line around 10 times a game--many teams will not pick me up on their ride, and I can certainly handle the ball well with both hands.

If all the attackers and middies don't pursue me and clear out, I just run like hell, probably to the half, and maybe, but usually not, farther. I absolutely hate when an attackman just waves his stick in front of you in front of the crease, it just gets under my skin. I might run it behind the cage then, or just clear it in the crease. The thing is, I never have had an attackman block my shot, so it more or less just leaves their d-pole open. Usually, I just jog it out, my point d moves out, and my wing d's stay parallel with me out on their respective sides, maybe a little ahead.

Yea, I do my part on the bone crushing to an attackman just turning to see me looming in his vision.

Overall your not aggresive if you run it up and your not it you don't. It's all about the smartest and best play if you can run it then go. But I like to look and if there's no one and i get to three seconds in the crease i go behide work my way from there i have thre goals this indoor season you figure it out do what you want and the smart thing, Not the flashiest make you look good move.

I'm very aggressive on saves
I will go out 10 yards to kill a fast break if it will save a goal or 1 vs. 0

On clears I take my time.
its all about using the extra man advantage on a clear to the defenses advantage... but if no one thinks of me as a threat i'm running all the way to the other goal. bounce shot FTW

heres how it works for me, someone too close to crease BANG he down on ground. As for clears I usually pass to mid-line up field. I am able to throw that far accurate and those guys arent as guarded.
