View Full Version : Tying off shooting strings (I searched...)

Ok I searched the threads for something like this but didn't have any luck.

Here is my problem: I just strung a 5D head following Orange's tutorial. It works great but I have a problem when tying off the shooters. Whenever I tie them the knot I use adds a lot of whip I don't want. I am using a square knot. This mostly happens with the nylon (I think it's the nylon, whichever string is the same type as the top string). I will tie the square knot and when I tie that it tightens the string which adds massive amounts of whip.

I will try and loosen the string and then tie the knot loosely but I just don't feel like that is the right way to do it. I want the string taught but not tight. If I tie it loosely the string just doesn't seem right.

So has anyone else ever had this problem? If so what is the best remedy to fix this? Thanks in advance.

when you tie it off, do the first knot semi loose and the second knot as tight as u can/want

I have tried that and it kinda works. If I tie the second knot as tight as I want it seems to tighten the first knot too which tightens the rest of the string. Plus if I tie it semi-loose it seems that the string gets looser as I play. I will try it out again though.

Any other suggestions?

Tie the first knot so that it's only tight enough to touch the mesh, but not pull the shooters any tighter. Then tie the second knot tight so that it doesn't come loose.
