Check out McMonagle's stringing job in last night's game vs. Duke:

Looks like his own version of the "No-Rebound" pocket. He obviously can save the heck out of it but I wonder how well it works for rebounds, because it sure ain't the prettiest thing...

Why does every pocket have to be a 'version of' another pocket? I know what you're saying and yes I do agree that it's ugly, but it's a goalie pocket that works for him and I'm sure that if it gave up a ton of rebounds, he, and most other goalies at that level, wouldn't use such a pocket.

Sorry to sound bitter, I don't mean to.

I didn't mean to imply that he was copying (although he may have been - it's a fairly unique pocket as far as goalie pockets go), nor does it really matter. Since you don't see too many goalies at that level (or at any level, really) using it, I'm just wondering how well it works. Nothing more than that. Also just found it interesting to see something different.

I doubt it...
Seems like "regular" open sidewall with loose sidewalls...
I say "regular" because the mesh narrows near the scoop, then widens again, almost as if he didnt stretch the mesh completely.

On another note, I havent seen a single pair of gloves in the 07 season that didnt look amazing.

i don't know what he was going for, but thats straight up hideous. i've never really seen top level goalies experimant like that, they usually go for pretty standard pockets.

Wait, what? It's not that bad... at all. In fact, by my standards it is fairly normal. I don't see why everyone thinks that it looks unique... or am I missing something?

Well...The 2 sidewall connections (left-right) are strung differently.

i saw that pocket about 2 feet from my face last week.
it's ridiculously ugly. and he wasn't using that stick in the game.

I mean, if it works, use it. I think most high-level goalies don't experiment like that because they either don't know how to string sticks like that well (no offense) or don't want to change what they know works.

Might want to look at your form before you blame the stick. Unless you have some tennis racket (but judging by the pocket of your one stick I'd assume it's not), it's probably more of you not having soft hands than it is the pocket.

As for McMonagle's pocket, doesn't remind me too much of the no rebound (lacks a lot of its qualities), but it does look like a rather...interesting open sidewall pocket. Clearly it's not stopping his team from winning though, so whatever works.

mcmonagle has had the same type of pocket since 04 so he's not really expierimenting its been proven to work for him, its double sidewall but starts a few holes down the head, then the top two shooters, one nylon one regular or two nylon, are pulled as tightly as possible and then strung to top sidewall holes that were skipped. I dont understand why anyone would suggest this pocket causes rebounds its relatively deep, but for anyone who is a cornell fan, in wet weather mcmonagle always seem to have trouble with his passes

I guess he did use a similar stringing last year. See the pic from last year's game @Penn. I was sitting in stands at the time, but I couldn't tell:

Most open sticks, I have found, are unreliable in the rain. Why would his be any different?

I mean, his stick isn't pretty or anything, but it works for him so more power to him.
