Makes it easier to pick up a ground ball if you know what you're doing. (box style) Forms the head in a fashioin that encourages the ball to leave the same spot in the stick everytime. (4x4 nets not garage doors) Lessens the amount of head that the ball can rattle around in on stick checks. (alot more physical checking)
It's not recommended for beginner to intermediate players.

well usually once you box pinch a head it's scoop is either gonna taco or be uber curved but either way its easier for a box pick up

More than anything else, it's a result of a tight pinch.
If you bring a 6.5 to 7" wide scoop down to 4.5 to 5.5 inches, the extra plastic has to go somewhere. So, either you get a pointy head, or a curved head, or both.
Most box players prefer to curve the scoop rather than point it. Reasons are as mentioned above. One other bonus is that it also helps catch the ball on the draw-back if you're taking F/Os.

4.5" scoops are ridiculous. I try to keep mine about 6" and that is plenty narrow. There is something to be said for a nice curved scoop...I hate the look of heads that have flat scoops (i.e. all Brine heads).
