the acctual native american name is Baggataway, so yes, "lacrosse" doesnt mean "little brother of war" but baggataway, the indian version, was commonly referred to as the little brother of war

I thought the indians had 2 words for it. Bagattaway, which literally translates as 'Ball' and Tewateron, which literally translates as 'Little brother of war' Maybe i have them reversed but i remember reading that a few times. Either way the DAMN FRENCH named it Lacrosse. GOD I HATE THE FRENCH. such pussies

Considering this country was founded by WASPs (White Anglo-Saxon Protestants) it's not surprising they looked at anything the Natives did as savage and weird.

It was actually named by the French Canadians, not the French... eh?

Yeah but they were French settlers before they were French Canadian. We weren't Americans the moment we set foot on this land we were British Settlers.

Other then Lacrosse and maybe Soccer name another sport that was not created by WHITE people that are actually played in this country?
If you want to go that route why is it that lacrosse is the native game but it's stereotypically played by rich prep school kids(i know it's not true but it is the stereotype)

I know you said maybe, so I am not ripping on you, but Soccer was invented in England. So, I am pretty sure it was invented by whitey, too.

Some sports not invented by whitey:
Sumo Wrestling
Camel Racing
Umm...I think thats it...oh wait...actually if you don't count Australians as whitey then add Bungee Jumping

Correction, the Bishop's staff was called the Crosier.
It was called Lacrosse after the French saw a match and thought that the sticks looked similar to a bishop's crosier, especially the hooked top.
The word was then somehow corrupted from
la crosier
to
lacrosse
if you say in with a French accent it does make sense!
Apologies for sounding so bloody anal.

and aaaaaargh! please don't call it soccer. it's so very American.
It's football, not American football but just plain old Football. Thank you very much. (I have serious issues with this, not that I'm a football fan, always been more of a Rugby girl myself)
Ooh and another non-whitey to the List, Muay Thai boxing, sweet!

Yeah it is Football sorry it's force of habit being an American, i apologize. Honestly It makes no sense why American Football is called football. It does on the other hand make much sense why (dare i call it european) Football is called football.
I played Soccer(Football) growing up but switch to American Ball for the last 10 years and am picking up rugby in about a week or so. Not that it matters just saying.

Other thing, why IS American football called American footbal? I don't really remember the use of feet that often except for transitions (is that what you call it? kicking the ball between the posts?) There's a HUGE problem of feet not really being involved. (Have also realised that I'm being a pedantic tw*t)
oooh, and do tell me how that goes switching from american football to rugger will you?
I know a few people who tried the reverse and tehy said it was really bizarre having to pad up before a match
Anyway, another annoying point.. What is the deal with Football (soccer, aaaaargh!) It's a bunch of pretty boys running on pitch who act like complete drama queens when someone so much as brushes past them. For God's sake! I've sustained worse injuries playing pop lacrosse! Yeesh!
Rant over now, hee hee hee. Sorry!

I know quite a few guys who did the switch. They were a bit hesitant at first but they get used to the lack of padding and then feel they would be alot better if they were to play football again. Both in the contact and it the reaction and anticipate on a play since Rugby is such a faster game for the most part.
I never got soccer either i played it from 4-13 and i look at it today and i just get sick cause its just so vanilla in my opinion.

it;s called football because the qb at one time used to kick the ball instead of throwing it... way back in the day

football turned into a ***** sport as soon as they made us wear helmets....haha :banghead :cussing
johnnyicesae

So what your saying is Football has almost always been a ***** game. Since they've been wearing Helmets(in some form or another) since the game was invented. Given the original helmets were made of padded leather.
Ehh why am i wasting my time? Your probably just being sarcastic anyway.
