I am coaching a middle school team (1st year) & have an attackmen I need help with. As a disclaimer..played d-fense in college so please...any(!) suggestions are welcome!

The above mentioned player is relatively big and a good athelte. He has decent stick skills though is afraid to press the goal. Does well on fast break/hobart drill but in 1v1, 2v2 etc...most of the time....shies away from the hole and passes to adjacent. I am pretty sure he wants to step up - walked him through backing into the goal as he's not that fast ~ he did ok.

Any suggestions...drill wise?

Tks!

if he doesnt go to the goal when u want him to. make him do pushups or run laps or something

make him do one on one's and 2 on 2's best thing that i can think of should build confidence

its not always a bad idea for him to pass the ball, maybe he's just more of a feeder

if you need him to score, let him know
just tell him he is a leader and needs to have big games in order for your team to be successful

Teach him and help him perfect the basic dodges- split, face, roll, inside roll, and if hes big like you said the bull dodge, that should help him to attack the cage, atleast broaden his capabilities.
