I'm thinking about getting acupuncture. I made a thread in the lacrosse training and instruction forum about having OSD (Osgood Schlatter Disease). I was hoping the acupuncture would help the pain in my knees.

Has anyone else had acupuncture? If so, did it do anything? Does it hurt having a bunch of pins being stuck into you?

This picture grosses me out:

Actually the reason it doesnt hurt and makes you feel good is because the needles are placed in between your skin cells and then stimulate the nerves.

my dad got it and said it was pretty stupid. the first couple sessions is only like an arm and a leg. then the next session they do both arms or something stupid like that, it's not like you think. they don't just have you lay down and stick your whole body and you magically feel better. they are also really expensive and they want you to drink weird tea and vitamins.

My math teacher had it done for his shoulder. He had had shoulder pains for over a year, and after one session, he said it made his shoulder feel completely better. This was a while ago, and the pain hasn't come back.

I get it religiously. for me she went right into the big stuff cause she knows my family and how their bodies handled it. but for a new person they usually take it easy. it's not at all like giving blood if you've ever done that, that needle is huge.. these needles are actually very very thin and i personally don't feel them at all. they place them in spots you feel you need them, and then some every so often throughout your body. my insurance also helps cover it so i only pay a $20 co-pay.

i agree with laxmiddie32. i wouldnt waste your time and money because if all we had to do was stab our selves where we hurt then id get the needles perminatly inserted in my skin so i didnt feel any pain. like i said on your other forum just go to a athletic doctor and wear the knee braces

I would recomend it, its really helped my shoulder and knee. My physiotherapist did it, and he did alot of weird stuff, like zapping me through the needles, or going super deep with the needles. But it really helped get rid of the pain in my knee and shoulder. I say go for it.

I have always had good luck with acupencture and my mom does it religously. Insurance can really help with the cost.
