You have to see this to believe it. On the front page of this morning's New York Times, above the fold, is a huge picture of an urban renewal project in Chongqing, China. There's a problem with the project: a couple refuses to leave their home, and as a consequence, the project is going on all around them.

Wu Ping's house in Chongqing, China, sits on its own island of land amid construction all around it. (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/26/world/asia/26cnd-china.html?_r=1&oref=slogin)

The story made the network TV news tonight as well. If you Google news for Wu Ping Yang Wu (http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=Wu+Ping+Yang+Wu+&btnG=Search), you'll come up with more hits.

As you may recall, there was a Supreme Court case decided two years ago, Kelo v. New London (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelo_v._New_London), that dealt with the issue of eminent domain. The decision was not popular. There were two threads here about it.

Individual rights is taking a beating (http://www.lacrosseforums.com/showthread.php?t=22722)

Executive Order: Protecting the Property Rights of the American People (http://www.lacrosseforums.com/showthread.php?t=50674)

I'm pleased to see someone take a stand for the Fifth Amendment, even if it is in China.

I know it's religion and politics, but the picture is great.

Haha, I can see this starting out like the Tienanmen Square thing, but with earth movers.
