when i am getting warmed up, and all throughtout practice, my team intentionally tries to hurt me. The aim for my arms and shins, and crank them from 5 feet away. They tell me that they try to hurt me, so i know that they arent just coincidentally hitting me. I try to tell them to slow their shots down while they are that close, and to stop trying to hurt their own team, but they dont listen. I also tried to consult my coach, but he encourages them to do that. i dont care if they rip shots at me, but when my own team tries to hurt me it crosses the line. does anyone know how i can get my team to stop trying to hurt me?

Are they trying to hurt you as to toughen you up? Or to bring you down?
Key question is : Why? :nofear:

If everyones going to hit you from that close, time it right and place a big hit on one of them. Gets the message across prety quick.

My team did this to me last year except they werent trying to hurt me. they were just ripping them to try and hit me so i would not be ball scared. that is just wrong and they should not be intetionaly trying to hurt you. if the coach incourages in that is even wronger. the only thing i did was i eventually got over it and they stopped doing it. but if they dont stop i would threaten to either quit or just stop letting them shot on you and tell them when they stop trying to hurt you then you will let them try and shoot on you. it just plain wrong and it makes me angry that they intentionally try to hurt you. Good luck, seriously.

or just do what Garor said and hit them until you get the point across

i agree with garor...lay one of their butts out, and when he's on the ground bend over and calmly tell him to stop.
OR
stuff one of them, take the ball at wing one at THEM from close quarters. see how they like it.

Both of those are very good options, when he rips it from 5 feet out just as he is shooting unload a vicious shoulder into his chest. That will probably make it stop

My team does that to all of our goalies, including me, the few times a week I'm in goal.

agreed with washjeff, stepout and let themfigure out wow hes pissed now we have no goalie, they will take you back. I honestly couldnt put up with this if i was in your situation. Screw them. And what is your coach thinking? You never try to hurt a goalie nor any teamate.

Definetly try laying one of them out. It gets the point across very quick. Everyone on my team used to rip shots on me from 10 feet away until I just wrecked one of them. And im a smaller guy so they realized I was really pissed. If that doesnt work then walk off the field for a little while until they realize your real mad.

this happened to me i just went out to practice without my pads, just fooled around on the sidelines. if these guys are your friends they will get the message that you where serious when you asked them to stop. if they don't do you honestly want to associate with these guys?

Ask them whats its getting done. Tell them that when they start getting that shot in games, they can practice it on you. Deck one of them. Deck all of them. Step out. Wing a few balls at them. Tell them to play goal, and you rip it on them from the crease.
laxgoalieguy123
03-30-2007, 04:13 PM
"go on strike" refuse to practice if they continue doing that, and rip one at the guy that is doing it the most... so none of your coaches care??? there has to be atleast one guy who is against it

i have hit a few of them, and left some pretty bad bruises, but they still dont stop. and when i hit them with the ball, they just get mad and shoot more. I dont think any of them really understand what they are doing. i would threaten to quit, but i love playing, and i would have to sit the season out, which would suck. i am thinking about not playing goalie next year because most of them will be on the same team as me next year. i used to play middie, and i think i will go back to it.

tell the coach that hes going to have to find another keeper if he doesnt straighten out the kids on your team.
lax21goalie2008
03-30-2007, 08:25 PM
That's complete BS. They shouldn't be trying to hurt you, especially if you are the only goalie.
Just smash the kid that does it the most, then get in his face, then spike the ball into his stomach. That will get the message across.
EHSLAX12
03-30-2007, 08:41 PM
ya, just go up to them and kick all of them in their shins and run away, thatll prove your point...
like spenny said, if they wanna try that then they will be out a goalie. its ridiculous that they do that, i would kill them if they tried that with me.

talk with your coach or just shoot him an e-mail. Don`t destroy any of them because that will get them angrier and the coach will dislike you. If they don`t stop and the coach doesn`t stop them just say i need a drink and walk off for a minute and let them cool down.

Perfect solution....
Make a save, whip it back and yell "THATS ALL YOU GOT (expletive of choice)!"
then when they flinch, lay them out, but don't just get off em. Look em in the face and verbally berate them.
then just walk off the field, because your coach will be pissed. But he only ha one goalie.

there are a few kids who do this to me,
when i play with a friend after school sometime a few kids come over and when im not even paying attention rip on me, i normally let friends shoot on me from about 20' out with platform balls when i have no pads, i tell the kids who use real balls to stand in net and a few stop but one says h could be twice as good as me if he wanted to

They are being [naughty word], just show them your tougher. Your coach is dumb for telling them to rip shots on you trying to hurt you , that doesn't help make someone a better lacrosse player.

How old are you?
First of all, your coach is an idiot. When a player on my team does something stupid like that, I tell him he just volunteered for goalie for the next week at practice, then I rip shots AT HIM. I am really good at finding un-padded areas.
Step two, have your parents talk to the coach. Like I said, I don't tolerate that behavior from my players.
Step Three, come to the game dress to play another position. Assuming you have your parents backing, tell the coach to find another player for the team to play goalie and get abused since he allows other players to engage in this behavior.
Step four, get "hurt" during the pre-game warm-ups, in the shoulder, on the knee, on the ankle, in a manner that you can't play during that game, can't run, can't pass. Then volunteer one of the worst offenders to play goalie for the game. That should end the problem.
Step five, quit the team or find another one.

Wow... that's pretty bad dude. Your coach is a total idiot. If he doesn't listen, get your parents involved, because that's poor coaching and and probably some kind of illegal to encourage violent behavior. If he doesn't do anything, go to practice with a shorty and nail some kids in the balls. Also hard slashes to the arms/wrists work. They can't hit you if they can't shoot, right? Seriously if those kids were on my team, i'd go box on them and drop the lid gloves and rip someone's head off, but i have aggression problems, so yeah. Seriously though, talk to your parents and have them talk to the coach or even better, the athletic director, because if he's any kind of responsible adult, he'll get your back! i thoroughly detest people who intentionally hit goalies and lay down the law when i get the chance.

after taking the week before and after spring break from practice, i hope it will stop. at the games we had recently, i did really good because i needed a bit off from practice to start to enjoy playing goalie again. i havnt gone to a practice for about three weeks, but on tuesday i dont think my team will still try to hurt me.

Okay well just to give some advice...
My coach runs a shooting drill, in which its a 1 v 1 with me and the shooter.
I hate it because they will just get right on crease and shoot one right at my shin/arm/etc, and I end up getting really hurt during this drill, and whenever someone hurt me, I would get really pissed, but had no way of getting out of this ( Coach insisted that I stood in goal during this)
So what I found to be fun and what made me feel better was this:
If a shooter hurt me ( with a stupid shot for a 1v1 like right into my facemask, or legs from 5 ft away), when he turned around to run back into the line, I simply picked up the ball and fired it at their back or legs. It lets them know what you are going through, and makes you feel better at the same time.

sack up, and start being happy your getting shots. you're getting good practice. i would love to have that. i get warmed up, then dont get another shot the whole practice. tell the hardest shooter on the team to stay after practice and shoot on you. earn some respect. get out there and show them they need you, and with any other goalie in your county, they would suck. do you think your not going to get hit in a game? if you haven't gotten a deep thigh bruise or broken anything, the shots must not be that bad. start wearing those goalie shorts with pads in them.
do they shoot like that in a game? if they do, tell them aiming is a lot better than firing in close. if they don't do it in a game take command during a huddle with a "practice like you play" and "do you guys care bout this team". you gotta earn your respect, and complaining on an internet forum isn't gonna get it. go out there next practice, dont complain, and play your hardest.

what i usually do is:
step out of goal and ask one or two kids that understand warming up a goalie is for the goalie on the shooters
lay one of them out as they begin to crank it....hard
throw buddy passes in scrimages near kids who i know will really rail them
