View Full Version : Matrix (the movie) & connections to lacrosse
I've been noticing a lot of names from The Matrix appearing in lax products lately. Some of it is coincidental, some of it is intentional. Since the original Matrix was such a cool & successful film, the lax companies lifted some its names to give their gear the same cool word association. Same thing happened after Jurassic Park. All these products (completely unrelated to the movie) came out being dubbed, "raptor". E.g. STX Raptor head, Lockheed-Martin F-22 Raptor stealth fighter...
Obviously you have Matrix the movie :: Brine Matrix head and shaft (new for 2005).
The Oracle character :: Gait Oracle head (2005)
The Sentinals killer machines :: Gait Sentinal goalie head & chest protector (2005)
The Matrix Revolutions (title of part 3) :: Warrior Revolution head
Vector (minor character in Reloaded) :: STX Vector head
Not sure, but there were probably numereous references to cyber-whatever (cyberspace?) :: Brine Cyber head
Was there ever a product called the Morph or had feature called morph? Maybe it was influenced by the character Morpheus? I bet there's a girls' head that's getting ready to be released as the Trinity. Me, I'm waiting for the Agent Smith mlax head.
Can anyone else think of other Matrix :: lax connections?

lol thats cool-- but off topic I always like STX names the best... "octane" "proton" those were cool ones. But I never really thought of it that much, The Matrix head was obvious though.... nice thinking

actually, the revolution analogy isn't accurate. the revolution head came out in like 2000, but the movie was released in 2003...i'm not sure of the exact years, but the head came out before the movie.

actually, the revolution analogy isn't accurate. the revolution head came out in like 2000, but the movie was released in 2003...That's true. The Warrior Revo came out in 1999. The STX Vector also came out before Reloaded did. To quote from my original post, "Some of it is coincidental..." For those unclear on the concept, the root word of coincidental is coincidence.
coincidence - (noun) an event that might have been arranged although it was really accidental [syn: happenstance]
Back to the subject...
Prophecy (that Neo is The One) :: Brine Prophecy head
Good one LM32.

haha, that's what I thought up when I heard about "the answer". It sounded very matrix (movie) like to me. Whoever was talking about the best head names, I think some company should do animals. Think about some it ("the giraffe" would be a hilarious lax head name, but like, "the tiger" would kick). Or, choose a specific species of animal, like the black widow spider. I think it's better than naming heads after electronic stuff (proton, aftershock, other stuff)

not only coincidence but i have known about those movies long long time before they came out because they taped them all at the same time there fore being big companies they would be able to get cool things like early scripts so they could have heard about it a while maybe even 3 years eariler.....
Matrix is my faviorte movie... and Lax is my faviorte game.... wow theres another coincidence!!!

wow i never thought of that.
I think the coincidence is due to the trend of lacrosse equipment being named after badass math/science terms (torque, matrix, evolution etc). Since The Matrix is themed around such terms, they will coincide with the lax equipment names. The other main theme is weapon/object names or cultural names (Razer, Money, etc). Obviously the movie the Matrix popularized these terms further which would lead to the likelihood of them being included in names of various products; note that these names have been used in other sports's equipment as well (Revolution football helmet, Vapor soccer shoes, etc).

I like the idea of naming them after animals. The new names suck, they're unoriginal. If anyone ever markets a head called the "Naked Mole Rat", I'm buying it, even if it sucks.

Haha, they have to be BADASS science names, like fusion, supernova, quark, cryo, plasma, trigger. Or maybe the MIT team has the Brine Coeffecient and the STX Derivative.

ok call me a nerd, but the concept of phi is the coolest in the world..... the mathematical equation of beauty... something like 1.86666666666... theres a set i believe sierpinski? that goes 2/3, 3/5, 5/8,8/13.... add the numbers together to get the denom of the next fraction and you get ever closer to 1.8666666666....
I'm a geek I know, but it's proven that 3x5 rectangles are the most appealing and used them to measure the columns of the acropolis.... ok done rambling and explaining entry level geometry.....

your wrong, its the fibbonaci series... 1 1 2 3 5 8 13 21 so on so on
divide a term by its preceding term and it approaches the 'golden' or 'divine' ratio, seen everywhere throughout nature, its [ 1 + (5)^0.5 ] / 2, thats the exact value of the ratio, for all u who r interested...
do a search for golden ratio on google and be amazed.
