hey everybody, i just joined the lacrosse team at school, and i was wondering, why exactally are the sticks that the defense use so long? it almost seems a bit excessive.
see ya round!

longer clears, harder checks, more of a chance to check someone without having to get up really close to them. i'm pretty sure that's why, correct me if i'm wrong.

blocking shots is pretty hard but intercepting passes is pretty easy, you just have to follow the ball, plus it's not like they throw 90+ mph passes

becuase us defenders are too cool for short sticks... hahaha

no relly its jjust to get more leverage on clears and to give a greater reach for checks interceptions and so on

Also, to almost herd the attackman, and funnel him to the side you want.

Haha, similar thing, my neighbour said yesterday that D poles were "unfair" on attackmen (she doesn't play lax), and i can see where she's coming from. On a defensive end, we have the reach, leverage, power etc needed to be an effective barrier to the attacker. However, the attackmen have a similar advantage with their shortsticks, they can be sneakier (have you ever tried a btb dodge with a d pole? heh...), and have less area to check.

but we(attackmen) score anyway, so i dont see the problem.

Actually, I think they are a disadvantage, especially during clears, because theres more stick for us(attackmen) to check, and it seems harder to catch with them if you're not experienced enough....

And shepards we shall be, for thee my Lord for thee, Power hath descended forth from thy hand, that our stick may swiftly carry out thy command, we shall flow a river forth to thee, and teeming with attackmen shall it ever be. In nomine patris, et filii et spiritus sancti.

its because were special

i was about to say, defenseman are slower in the head, so therefore they need longer sticks to help them play.

attackman pride.

Owch. Or maybe we are faster in the head, so we can react better with something that is harder to control.

yeh but for defense when you scoop its real easy for someone to check your stick right there.

Actually it just comes naturally since all defensemen are used to having big sticks. The creators wouldn't have had it any other way.

But really, it is to take away the advantage attackmen have of knowing where they are going. It helps make up for the fact that we have to act upon their actions with the ball.
