whenever i cradle before i make a pass/shot i do so with my bottom hand usually, but someone told me it was bad/wrong. Is he telling the truth or a tall tale?

IMO there really is no wrong way, I personally do it with both hands while lefty or righty. My top hand is always dominate like that person told you, it just feels comfortable to me. I see no reason on why it is bad or wrong, unless it messes up form or whatever, I think he was just telling you the "right" or "proper fundamental" way of doing it. For example, when I first started playing, my coach taught us to throw with your elbow out and up and then to pull down, which is the proper technique, yet to most players (that I know) it isn't comfortable and thus we do it similar to that yet different. Its all preference, as said unless it is making you mess up, keep doing what feels right. If you want ask that person why he said what he said.

there is usually a reason why they emphasize the right technique because that way is usually the best way to do it. If you do what is comfortable a player forms bad habits which can be a very bad thing. If you don't pull with your lower hand, you don't generate as much velocity on shots, less power on passes, and greater chances of buddy passes which your teammates won't appreciate when you get hit. I mean if you don't feel comfortable to that technique its a reason to go hit the wall and play until you get comfortable. Every sports is about the fundamentals so you should listen to your coach and not take the lazy way out. I don't know how many times that has been emphasized in every sport i've played so their is a reason why they call it fundamentals..and man czech i went to servite the other day and the passes had no zip to them though i'm so stoked that you guys got a win over tustin man..wish i had another year to play this season with servite

I agree 100%, I didn't mean to make it sound like to take the lazy or easy way out. I just meant if he already learned how to cradle and shoot the way he likes he shouldn't change it if it gets the job done without any problems. I agree that you should always use the proper fundamentals. And when I mentioned the shooting thing, I pull down my outer arm just as hard as the proper technique its just that every time I did it the "right" way I couldn't throw and I already had a way of throwing perfectly. But yes you should always use proper fundamentals. And ya I'm happy they won against them too, I wish I was able to play though . I was at that game, they did an amazing job.
So back on topic you should ask the person you were talking to about why what you doing is wrong and see if you could do it the proper way if there is a serious reason to do it the proper way.

No, if you must do it, use your top hand.

But don't do it, every time you do that, the Defense/goalie has more time to settle, find the ball, and throw checks. It's bad.

i use my top hand to cradle but if i have a time and room shot ill cradle with the top hand and kinda spin my stick wiht my bottom..just a habit btu it never hurts me in anyway. so i say keep doin what your doin unless you do it everytime and oyur getting checked efore everypass or shot...if thats happening then work on oyur quick stick.

the best player on our team uses his bottom hand, and if you pay attention to how most college players do it, it seems to me that most use their bottom hand..i say whatever works but i use my top hand, i cant get a good enough handle when i have my gloves on if i try it with my bottom hand

And once you get to higher levels, you'll be screwed. Or you'll never get to higher levels because you do this. You're choice.

No, they don't. I will agree, it seems that way from initial look, but they start to cradle or wind up so they can get some power on it.
You need to do everything with your top hand, that way, if you are getting lifted, you can go one hand and bam, you're still golden.

I won't lie, I occasionally have to use my bottom hand on a lefty fake, if I don't feel I did a good fake, I use my bottom hand to save me.
